Darlington Meier Architekten bewegen sich souverän auf diversen Massstabsebenen - von Wohnbauten bis zu städtebaulichen Interventionen. Ein Gespür für die Wirkung klassischer Gestaltungsmittel und den stimmigen Einsatz von Materialien zeichnet die Entwürfe des Zürcher Büros ebenso aus wie ihr Bestreben, Orte mit spezifischer Identität zu kreieren. Das ist nicht zuletzt auf den Einfluss Peter Zumthors zurückzuführen, in dessen Büro Stephan Meier und Mark Darlington als Projektleiter arbeiteten, bevor sie sich 2004 selbstständig machten. Das von ihnen realisierte Mathilde Escher Heim für körperbehinderte Erwachsene in Zürich ist etwa eine bespielhaft selbstbewusste städtebauliche Setzung, die zugleich eine wohnliche Atmosphäre zu verbieten vermag.
