Completed in 1956, the headquarters of Mutuelle Vaudoise in Lausanne quickly became the model for administrative architecture in Switzerland. The client's intention is clearly demonstrative: we want a building capable of expressing, through its architectural modernity, the image of an equally modern and dynamic society. Jean Tschumi, a key figure in 20th century architecture, is at work. Exposed reinforced concrete; cutting-edge technical devices; flexibility of the interiors. These ideas are skillfully transposed into the beautiful ensemble known as "Le Cedre", named after the site, in an exceptional natural setting that Tschumi will know how to enhance. The architect composes with shapes and materials, colors and textures, following an approach of great coherence. There will be added a series of works of art admirably integrated into the architecture, a true "total work of art". The Cedar is one of the most famous buildings in Switzerland and beyond, a demonstration even. This first monograph dedicated to the building of Jean Tschumi wishes to pay homage to him.
