"There are few artists in today's music scenes who we can define as truly avant-garde. The generic, often misleading term is latched on to artists which are too difficult to describe and so "out there" that the term has become a lazy go-to which categorizes something that is so unique and groundbreaking that there isn't a term for it yet. One such artist is Bryant Canelo, aka LAMPGOD, or more recently, LORETTA ABERDEEN - their latest pseudonym which has manifested itself in the form of analog-based, harsh (yet subtle) electronic rhythms, sometimes over freestyle spoken word prose - (often ironic - draped in mystery and subtle wordplay, inside jokes, tales of heartbreak and debauchery), but mostly the inner thoughts and reflections of real-world experiences of this soft-spoken New Jersey-based legend. Bryant has been creating music for the better part of 10 years, their initial introduction to the music scene formed under the alias Ice Water Metallic - a nod to their past inspiration by classic hip hop legend Ghostface Killah - with which they mastered the use of the Akai MPC-60 / Roland SP-303 in the classic tradition of underground dusty hip hop beats. As their music and taste evolved, so did their styles, which took on the alias of LAMPGOD - a chance to branch out of the narrow lines of hip hop and see growth into more abstract experimental, sample-based styles, less focused on the traditional beat approach, and more open-ended. With the arrival of LORETTA ABERDEEN's karoshi before dishonor, we see a new direction emerge. A patchwork of stripped-down samples and raw crunchy rhythms running through outdated, impossibly fragile analog gear consisting of Akai MPC-60 and Akai S-6000 samplers, and with painstaking accuracy and attention to detail, more often straight-to tape-recordings (which in and of itself is an extraordinary feat given the ease and direct ability to do similar tasks in half the time via computer software). While experiencing LORETTA ABERDEEN, the process is often the actual destination rather than some contrived notion of a final music track or crescendo. Time signatures and familiar track lengths are secondary (or altogether dismissed) and extended to a point of discomfort - testing the listener's patience, exceeding an almost meditative, timeless state. This is an experience one must see (or listen to) up-close and personal in order to fully grasp. Bryant Canelo is LORETTA ABERDEEN."-- provided by distributor.
