Summary:

"In this conversation, Léopold talks with Audrey Albert about the Chagossian struggle since the early 1960s deportation of the entire nation from its archipelago to make space for a British-owned, U.S. Air Force-leased military base. We discuss about the fight for reparations in Britain and Mauritius, the ambiguous outcome of the recent change of British citizenship legislation for Chagossians, the sovereignty claims of the Mauritian state, as well as the artist work Audrey has been undertaking around these questions. Audrey Albert is a Mauritian-Chagossian, visual artist and creative facilitator. Based in Manchester, Audrey's research-led practice enables her to consider and investigate themes of mixed identity, collective memory and displacement. Her work Matter Out of Place was part of the Practise Til We Meet exhibition at the ESEA Contemporary in Manchester earlier this year."-- provided by distributor.
