Summary:

"Space Fictions : Booklets on Architecture and Cinema is conceived as a vehicle for a critical and visual approach to the relationship between architecture and cinema, in the sense that both disciplines are acknowledged as artificial devices that make it possible to reach and manipulate the senses of space. In this way, we understand the action of cinema--borrowing Jean Baudrillard's definition of the act of photographing--not as a way of describing the world, but as a way of 'bringing it into being through its thousand faces;' in the same way and in sequence, we recover Ignasi de Solà-Morales' conviction that 'it is not only the need for mediation but also the media condition, the establishment of fictions, that which is specific to architecture and the urban landscape.' Under these pretexts, we believe that the articulation between cinema and architecture that we propose may allow for an original interpretation of its meanings and the representation of space as a creative act. In this issue, we look into such possibilities through Steven Soderbergh's 2002 film Solaris" -- Cover.
