Summary:

"Peter Cook: Art of Architecture showcases the prolific drawing practice of pioneering British architect Sir Peter Cook. Typically used by architects as a functional tool in the development of projects, Cook has rather employed drawing to channel his boundless imagination throughout his career, from images made in the early 1960s when Cook was part of the visionary group Archigram, to the vibrant works on paper he creates today. These compelling, colourful and highly-detailed drawings resonate beyond the architectural sphere, pushing the boundaries of architectural norms of design and construction, revealing a freedom to imagine buildings, communities and cities that are, as he succinctly puts it, 'possible or maybe nearly possible, but importantly, not consciously impossible.' This book brings together 18 projects selected by Cook that he considers the most essential to understanding his creative process. Each is accompanied by a text written by the architect to set it within a historical, cultural and personal context. Cook's unorthodox and varied 60-year career is explored further in two interviews with Serpentine's Artistic Director, Hans Ulrich Obrist, which delve further into Cook's history, belief systems and creative processes from childhood to the present day."--inside front cover.
