Summary:

"Screening with filmmaker Suneil Sanzgiri followed by a conversation on the relationship between diasporic agency and filmmaking as an unenclosed practice of solidarity and revolt. The program includes Sanzgiri's film 'At Home But Not At Home' (2019), featuring interviews with his father growing up under Portugese colonialism in India, utilizes modes of seeing at a distance to question the construction of memory, identity, and anti-colonial solidarity across continents. It will be followed by a trailer for his upcoming 'Letter From Your Far-off Country'. Suneil Sanzgiri Suneil Sanzgiri is an artist, researcher, and filmmaker working to understand how systems of oppression are informed and reinforced by collective forms of trauma, history, and memory. His work spans experimental video, animations, essays, and installations, and contend with questions of identity, heritage, culture and diaspora in relationship to structural violence. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a Masters of Science in Art, Culture and Technology in 2017 and was a 2016 resident of the SOMA program in Mexico City. His film At Home But Not At Home made its World Premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) in January 2020, with a nomination for the Found Footage Award. His work has been screened nationally and internationally, and is a co-programmer of the 2020 Flaherty Seminar in New York City, organizing a 6 week long film series at Anthology Film Archives."-- provided by distributor.
