"In German In this conversation with curator and art historian Lisa Ortner-Kreil, Hans Kupelwieser discusses his longstanding connection to the Secession, where his work was included as early as 1981 in the exhibition Erweiterte Fotografie [Extended Photography], curated by Peter Weibel and Anna Auer-an event he considers the beginning of his artistic career. For more than four decades, he has created artworks across a wide range of media, most prominently sculpture, as well as photography, and large-scale installations. Furthermore, the artist talks about methods of alienation, processes of distortion, the role of chance in artistic production, the unpredictable results of working with photograms, and colour as a carrier of meaning; not least, they also point out the importance of perception, the expansion of our visual habits, and the so-called "Kupelwieser effect." The conversation was recorded on 16 January 2026 at the Secession."-- provided by distributor.
