Summary:

"Rule Without Exception brings together the work of Lewis Baltz from 1967 to 1990. Compiled in one volume for the first time, this survey of images traces a remarkable way of seeing. Baltz creates an ordered complexity through the framing and angle of his images. His work examines the edges of an urban landscape, the areas where the city ends and the countryside begins, open areas where one sees both nature and the presence of industrialization. Seeing with a clear eye those parts of our environment that are pervasively part of our consciousness but are rarely directly confronted, Baltz finds an eloquent and spare beauty in the modern urban landscape."-- Page 2 of cover.
