Summary:

A worldwide call for entries resulted in this first-ever survey of the best current work created by landscape designers, architects, and artists dealing with the built landscape. This book is based on more than 500 submissions from outstanding design practitioners. There are also stimulating essays by notable design critics, artists, landscape architects, and architects, stemming from a forum held in San Francisco where this work was exhibited. The participants include John Beardsley, an art critic and author who resides in Washington, D.C.; Elizabeth Meyer of Charlottesville, chair of the Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Virginia; and James Corner of Philadelphia, associate professor of landscape architecture at the University of Pennsylvania.
