Summary:

"The summer 1990 issue of the Indiana Historical Society's illustrated history magazine, Traces of Indiana and Midwestern History, featured within its forty-eight pages the quarterly's usual blend of articles on the culture and heritage of the nineteenth state including such figures as Gene Stratton-Porter, Wendell Wilkie, T. C. Steele, and Eli Lilly. The Traces issue also marked the inaugural appearance of what became a fixture in the magazines, a department called "Destination Indiana."" "With text by Ray E. Boomhower and featuring the colorful work of Indianapolis photographer Darryl Jones, Destination Indiana: Travels through Hoosier History commemorates a decade's worth of the column by highlighting twenty-five Hoosier historic sites open to the public from around the state, some never before featured in Traces. With the assistance of curators from around the state, author Boomhower has informed the magazine's readers about the life and times of the people who not only inhabited these often architectural wonders, but breathed life into each historic building - George Ade, Indiana's "warmhearted satirist," at Hazelden Farm in Brook; Ernie Pyle, the GI's friend, at the Ernie Pyle State Historic Site in Dana; William Henry Harrison, Indiana Territory governor and hero of the Battle of Tippecanoe, at Grouseland in Vincennes; Elisabeth Ball, poet and conservationist, at Oakhurst in Muncie; and many others."--BOOK JACKET.
