Seder, Anton.
Das Thier in der dekorativen Kunst / von A. Seder.
Wien : Gerlach & Schenk, [1896-1909]
2 volumes (1 leaf, 30 leaves of plates, including t.p.) : color illustrations (chromolithographs) ; 58 cm
Seder's compositions in this portfolio offer ...[an] array of water creatures and birds, real and mythical, realistically rendered for the use and inspiration of painters, designers and decorators. The use of naturalistic motifs, geometric forms and sinuous lines, as well as his color palette, is typical of the Art Nouveau movement.
Anton Seder was a painter from Munich who became the first director of the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs. The academy was founded in 1890, by the city of Strasbourg, as part of a plan for the artistic revival of the region. He also created the decorative ceramic panels which still embellish the front of the building today.
