Robbie Cornelissen : het grote geheugen = the capacious memory / texten/texts, Lex ter Braak, Edwin Jacobs.
Rotterdam : NAI, 2011.
128 pages : illustrations ; 33 cm
Robbie Cornelissen (b. 1954) is one of the leading contemporary draughtsmen in the Netherlands. This publication presents an overview of the art he has produced since 2003. Cornelissen has established a reputation for the monumental, architectural drawings that he has been creating since the early 1990s. In these detailed pencil drawings of libraries, waiting rooms, factory buildings, circus arenas and shopping centres he plays with transitions and connections between indoor and outdoor space. The large format of the drawings, sometimes four metres wide, almost invites the beholder to 'enter into' the work. This book's large format makes the monumental context of the works palpable and allows space for the enthralling details. Exhibitions: Gemeentemuseum in The Hague 19.02-22.05.2011, the Centraal Museum in Utrecht 10.03-29.05.2011, and the Stedelijk Museum in Schiedam, 24.04-29.08.2011.
