Summary:

Die Gutsanlage Owinsk bei Posen galt bereits den Zeitgenossen als einzigartiges Zeugnis des Berliner Frühklassizismus in den preussischen Ostprovinzen. 1799 entsandte David Gilly drei seiner Schüler nach Owinsk, um für den Berliner Kaufmann Otto Sigismund von Treskow Wirtschaftsgebäude, Brennereien, Verwaltungsbauten und ein Landschloss mit Park nach den ästhetischen Prinzipien der Berliner Bauakademie zu entwerfen. Mit dem politischen Zusammenbruch von 1806 kamen die Arbeiten von Ernst Konrad Peterson, Louis Catel und Karl Friedrich Schinkel zum Stillstand. Erst Ende der 1820er Jahre wurden einzelne Raumdekorationen nach neuen Schinkel-Entwürfen fertig gestellt. Anhand bislang unbekannter Archivalien erzählt das Buch die Baugeschichte des Schlosses und stellt sie in den historischen Kontext.
