"The publication of Joe coincided with the exhibition Hiroshi Sugimoto: Photographs of Joe (2006), for which the photographer turned his attention to Richard Serra’s Joe, a torqued spiral sculpture that was commissioned for the Pulitzer’s courtyard. To photograph the work, Sugimoto used a technique involving areas of extremely soft light and blurred darkness. Forty of the photographs from this series are included in the book.
