Summary:

A panorama of the present state of Venezuelan architecture and urban planning spanning from 1997. The book comprises the recent architectural works of 9 emerging firms composed by young architects (40 years old) whose professional practice has developed largely during the last decade: Alejandro Borges, Juan Carlos Castillo, Roberto Castillo y Joao de Freitas, Alessandro Famiglietti, Franco Micucci, Nómadas (Farid Chacón, Francisco Mustieles, Lourdes Pearanda & Claudia Urdaneta), ODA (Eric Brewer & Juan Andrés Machado), Henry Rueda and José Antonio Sánchez. All studied their career in Venezuela and some have master courses overseas and despite numerous adversities, they have managed to produce a valuable professional practice. The book includes 27 constructed projects selected (3 for each firm), where a large part are finished constructions and some are still in the design stage, but all reflect the strong influence of who is considered the father of modern Venezuelan architecture: Carlos Raúl Villanueva. Includes essay "The Illusion of a New Architecture in Venezuela" by architect José Rosas Vera.
