Summary:

Recordings of a lecture given Sept. 20, 2001 at the Canadian Centre for Architecture, Montréal. Architect Philippe Lupien presents his experience and research on the impact of computers in the realm of architectural design, mainly supporting his point of view that the advancing computer technology is not necessarily an advantage for architects, and is not always necessary to achieve the best results. He cites the changes he has seen in architectural design practice due to new technology, and he illustrates his points with examples of his firm's work -- designs that were successful without using computers, for example. Includes opening and closing remarks by Nancy Dunton. The lecture was the first in a series of three lectures entitled "Le dessin revisité" = "Drawing Revised", in which Montréal architects talk about the extent to which they do and don't use the computer to design buildings.
