Die Escola Paulista besticht durch ihre radikal gestalteten Raum- und Tragwerkskonstruktionen. Dabei verbergen sich hinter den weitgespannten, überraschend offenen Gebäuden nicht nur räumlich-ästhetische Ideale, sondern auch übergreifende gesellschaftspolitische Vorstellungen. Sie verleihen der Bewegung des Brutalismo Paulistano auch eine soziale Bedeutung. Im Zentrum der Untersuchung stehen die Bauten von João Vilanova Artigas und dem Pritzker-Preis-Träger Paulo Mendes da Rocha.
