Summary:

Audio recording of a lecture by Montreal architect Julia Gersovitz. Julia talks about her grandfather Joseph Gersovitz, a Jewish immigrant who came to Montreal and worked as a builder. Julia discusses several of the buildings he built in Montreal from 1919 through to the 1930s, such as the Trafalgar Apartments. The event was the first in a series of lectures entitled "L'essor d'une ville et la naissance de ses banlieues" = "Building Montréal : the growth of the metropolis" which were presented in conjunction with the exhibition "Montréal Métropole, 1880-1930". Recorded on May 7, 1998 at the Canadian Centre for Architecture, Montréal. Includes introductory and closing remarks by Nancy Dunton
