Summary:

Consists of 60 drawings, 20 reproductions, 1 photograph, 1 sketchbook and 134 textual documents. The fonds documents the formation and professional practice of Marius Dufresne. It contains his notebooks and sketchbook from the École polytechnique, dated from 1900 to 1905, and some textbooks. It also contains drawings for architectural projects, including the Dufresne Residence in Montréal. The fonds also includes survey notebooks (1910-1913) and professional documents related to the city of Maisonneuve.

Biographical note:

Marius Dufresne was born Sept. 9, 1883 at Pointe du Lac, Québec. He studied at the École polytechnique de Montréal where he obtained his diploma in engineering. He worked for a year at the Locomotive Works at Longue Pointe before becoming associated with the firm Lacroix & Piché. He later became city engineer and suveyor for the city of Maisonneuve. He carried out important projects there, among them the new city hall, the market and the public baths, as well as the fire station. He also carried out a project for a post office for the federal government. Marius Dufresne drew up the plans for the Dufresne Residence (Château Dufresne) built between 1915 and 1918 on Sherbrooke St. in Montréal. The building is composed of twin houses for Marius Dufresne and his brother Oscar Dufresne, an industrialist and city councillor for the city of Maisonneuve. As architect and civil engineer in private practice, Marius Dufresne executed projects for churches, offices and residences. He died in 1945.
