Summary:

"What does it mean when social platforms and geo-information services fuse and enable us to find out via smartphone where our 'friends' are? How does the mediatisation of a city through mobile technologies change our perception of it? How can we use 'sensing' and 'monitoring' technologies to design urban infrastructures? 'Sensing Place' examines the mediatisation of the urban landscape and explores the increasing overlap of physical urban space and virtual information space. Apart from four theoretical contributions, eleven artistic positions will be focusing on the impact of this overlap as they reflect upon the perception of urban space transformed into a hybrid information space. The artistic works deal with the reorganisation of spaces and offer new perspectives on how the increasing mediatisation influences our everyday life."--P. [4] of cover.
