Skyline.
[approximately 1990] (Rodach, Germany : HABA, Habermaass GmbH)
1 set of building blocks (39 pieces) : painted wood ; various sizes in box 28 x 25 x 25 cm
Exhibited: "Les jouets et la tradition moderniste = Toys and the modernist tradition", Centre canadien d'architecture, Dec. 15, 1993-May 1, 1994.
A contemporary version of basic building blocks, this toy responds both to design elements of modern architecture and to the way in which these elements affect our skylines. Issued without instructions, the toy includes a brief reference on its cover to our modern world as having forged its own means of architectural expression in the skyscrapers which form part of our skylines. One portion of the container shows a trio of dramatic illustrations of the blocks in this context: a cityscape of mixed elements against a black background; a dizzying view from above; and a group of towering skyscrapers against a blazing sky.
