Movement in Midtown
AP027.S1.D52
Description:
Circulation study of the Midtown Manhattan area from 34th Street to 63rd Street. A partial closing of Madison Avenue and the creation of a pedestrian mall was proposed to decongest the area; redesign of 48th and 49th Streets; and a system of mid-block pedestrian routes. The study contains a series of reports on parking, trucks, maxicabs, cost projections, the West Side Highway, and Convention center. Among solutions advanced were the design and manufacture of a special minibus [Ginkelvan], the widening of sidewalks, a new east-west subway line, and new parking.

AP206.S1.1982.PR29
Description:
This project series documents a cinema complex in the Jagpal Palace shopping mall in Raikot, India, likely sometime in the 1980s-1990s. The project consisted of a proposed 670 capacity theater with an entrance foyer under the balcony seating and bicycle and scooter parking underneath the stage. The theater had a slanted roof that sloped down toward the stage and grand archways along its front elevation. It is not identified whether this project was ever built. The project is recorded through original drawings of floor plans, elevations and sections, probably dating from sometime in the 1980s-1990s.

Project
AP018.S1.1959.PR04
Description:
This project series documents the Simpson's store at Yorkdale Shopping Centre in North York, Ontario from 1959-1964. The office identified the project number as 5912. This project consisted of a 285,000 square foot store, largely clad in precast concrete, that included merchandising, stock, mall, and shipping areas, a coffee shop, a restaurant, and an enclosed court. See-through glass made up most of the ground level exterior, in order to entice shoppers to enter the store. There was also an enclosed court with a fountain, tropical foliage and a helicoidal staircase. The project is recorded through a mounted presentation photograph dating from around 1964, which shows the enclosed court.
