Description:
This project series documents the planning or reorganisation of the central sector of Abandoibarra, in Bilbao. The firm identified this project as number 83. At the time, the development of this area was essential for the development of the city. The firm described their project as: “[...] The centre of attention would be transferred from the material to the space between the things, working with the void: making a project of air, converting the dimensional [sic], the distance between the things, the public space (ARCH270975)." The project was developed by the Abalos & Herreros with César Azcárate and Patxi Mangado. They also worked with Eva Gómez, Juan Lahuerta, David Torres and Carlos Urtailquil. In 1993, the project won first prize at the competition Ordenación Abando-Ibarra, an open national competition organised by the Ayuntamiento de Bilbao (Bilbao City Council) and Colegio de Arquitectos del País Vasco y Navarra. This qualified the project for the international level of the competetion. However the project was not selected for the final round. Description:
The project series documents the competition entry for the international competition “Jubilee-Gardens” for the reorganization of the Southbank in London, England. Abalos & Herreros worked with an international team and the firm's entry was a finalist in the competition. The firm identified this project as number 139. “The competition programme asked for a new center for London. A center which would be perceived as a global icon. Comparing the statement with analogue enclaves showed that the Southbank was very small for such ambition, especially because of the fact that the project had to let as much metropolitan space open as possible. This forced to investigate how to enlarge the site. The problem was resolved by connecting adjacent areas in three levels. The original conditions and the programme offered a diverse mix of urban and natural elements: history, entertainment, culture, open spaces, the Thames… from where the conquest of the adjacent areas, the sub terrain and the margins of a linked event starts.” (ARCH270975) Documenting the project are conceptual and design development drawings, photographic and reference materials, notes, competition documents, and correspondence.

Description:
The project series documents Abalos & Herreros’ competition entry organised by the Cabinet of Andalucia for the underground in Málaga, Spain. The firm identified this project as number 172. “The stations are the masterpieces of the interaction between the peasant and the new infrastructure. […] A diversity of additive materials – combinations opaque or luminous, translucent or transparent, vegetal or aerial – make of [Abalos & Herreros’] proposal an elaborate sting operation that can adaptate [sic] to every imaginable circumstances looking for an agreement of highest coincidence between underground stations and the surface. The building and finishing coincidence between underground stations and the surface. The building and finishing system not only pretends [sic] an unitary image for all the underground web, but also constitutes itself an orientation code, an indicator for movement, a locator of accesses and a resource of orientation in town.” (ARCH270975). The firm worked with Mike Schlaich and Schlaich Bergermann und Partner (Stuttgart). Documenting the project are conceptual drawings, correspondence, specifications, cartographic and digital materials.
