Series 2, Software for producing the projection and narration, 2007-2008, is composed of ten different versions of the module that generates the projection and narration in the open gallery. Seven of the versions were among the files saved to a compact disc following the CCA exhibition and have been kept together as group ARCH275207. Three of the versions were on a hard drive that was used in Rovereto and comprise group ARCH275212. The core elements of each module are two application files. One of these, whose name begins with "VE1" uses parameters contained in a file called "config.txt". The other application file, called "VECalibration" displays the entire volume of the projected architectural space. The geometric parameters for a room are recorded in a separate image file called "ecan-angles.jpg". A readme file in each module explains how the different files interact with one another. It also identifies the version of the "VE1" application files and any issues that may be related to the version. Each module includes hundreds of Shockwave Flash files (.swf), each containing an animated or still image of a person or persons and/or one or more pieces of furniture. The intent of the New York Stock Exchange Three Dimensional Trading Floor (3DTF) was to detect suspicious trading activity, track the impact of global news events on the market and potentially predict a crash before it happened. In order to achieve this technically, Asymptote worked with Silicon Graphics Incorporated (SGI) RealityEngine hardware which had been built specifically for these visualization-intensive applications. They also worked with Softimage and Alias software for modeling, rendering and animating, and VRML (Virtual Reality Markup Language) and Macromedia Flash in order to integrate real-time data into a navigable three-dimensional environment. The main elements of the virtual environment include posts, containers, and back wall. The two container types, Index Container (IC) and Group Container (GC), allow for visualization and comparison of stock histories and behaviors. The posts display stock information, corresponding heat maps on floors, and alerts. The back wall integrates live news broadcasts. Design files document all parts of the building including the facade, the roof, the double cone (Doppelkegel), the restaurants, the shops, the exhibition areas, the auditorium, etc. Accompanying textual records are at times quite technical in their content, such as lists of construction elements required in a given room, or analysis reports from consulting engineers. They also take into account the organization and planning of the work, for example including documentation’s exchange or meeting agendas. Finally, they show the design development through presentations, either PDF or Powerpoint files, and through a portfolio of the project and the preparation of the book Dynamic Forces. The archive’s physical component includes 52 physical study models, which were used in combination with digital modeling tools to iteratively refine the building’s design. These are a selection made by the firm of study models from the later stages of the competition and the early stages of the design development.
