Résumé:
What we talk about when we talk about Bar Brutal: This is aportrait of one of the world’s best-loved drinking holes and its formative role in the natural wine movement, a two-way symbiosis from Barcelona to the world. Emerging in 2013, Brutal is the place where a legendary cast of winemakers, sommeliers, chefs, musicians, and wanton drinkers have all converged in the feeling that something was taking shape there between the never-ending party and an intimate knowledge of the wines. The book combines multiple, intersecting strands that veer between structure and chaos, reflecting the bar’s own underlying methodology. At the centre of the work is Bar Brutal’s first official cookbook, featuring 26 recipes, while collage sections merge archival imagery with the stories—or revelations—of 80-odd contributors, including Stefano Colombo, Joan Ramón Escoda, Christian Tschida, Nuria Renom, John Wurdeman, Thierry Puzelat, LCD Soundsystem, Peggy Gou, 2manydjs, Gilles Peterson, Aziz Ansari, Alice Feiring, and many more. Photo essays by Adrià Cañameras, Nacho Alegre, and Yago Castromil document the dinners, wines, people, and spaces that bring the place alive by day and night, while four written chapters anchor the story in time and place, tracing the bar’s evolution. Brought together by Madeleine Willis, former Apartamento editor and long-time Brutal regular, the work reflects the same energy that Brutal has injected into Barcelona and the wide world of wine since 2013 and celebrates over a decade of happy, chaotic, expansive service.

Résumé:
Inspired by the early style of Corbusier and ideas on Mediterranean architecture espoused by the likes of Bernard Rudofsky and Josep Lluís Sert, a younger generation of architects found the perfect conditions to explore the future of the Mediterranean house in Cadaqués—a small fishing village on the Spanish Costa Brava that was also home, or the summer meeting ground, for some of the past century’s greatest artistic figures, including Dalí, Picasso, Miró, and Duchamp. In this new book, photos from the period show the distinctive style and environment of Cadaqués and 22 homes designed by Federico Correa, Alfonso Milà, José Antonio Coderch, Francesc Joan Barba Corsini, Peter Harnden, Lanfranco Bombelli, Oscar Tusquets, and Lluís Clotet. Edited by Nacho Alegre, it features an introduction by Oscar Tusquets and also tells of the friendships and influences that existed between this group of architects, and how their architecture came to be.

Résumé:
Born in 1924, Agusti´n Herna´ndez came of age as an architect in Mexico as modernist ideas coalesced with a renewed pride in the country’s past. He was a frontrunner in combining the symbols, myths, and urban planning principles of pre-Columbian civilisations to create imposing architectural monuments that even today retain their avant-garde nature—from the military academy he built as a modern-day Mayan ceremonial ground to the remote meditation centre commissioned by his sister, based on the symbolism of the snake, and the studio-home that he built for himself in 1975: Praxis, a geometric treehouse that still towers over the Bosques de las Lomas neighbourhood of Mexico City. Original photography by Ryan Lowry. Texts by Tezontle Studio & Luis Orozco Madero, Carlota Pérez-Jofre, and Enrique Giner de los Ríos.

Résumé:
"Nineteen interventions: Arquitectura-G" is the first monograph to celebrate the work of this award-winning, Barcelona-based studio, and rounds off their first decade of practice. Readers are quickly absorbed into a distinctive universe, as they transit through more than 100 full-bleed images, where spaces, angles, and textures merge and intersect, page after page. Ultimately, these interventions—renovations or extensions that rest upon the framework of existing buildings—paint a larger picture as well: of an economic crisis that devastated a profession but gave rise to the conditions that shaped the young architects’ singular style and method of working. Photographed by the studio’s long-time collaborator José Hevia, the book also features texts by Oscar Tusquets, Moisés Puente, and Sam Chermayeff, as well as individual architectural plans for each project.
