Résumé:
From their European beginnings almost thirty years ago to their return to Peru in 2006, the long career of Barclay & Crousse, is characterized by the critical analysis of the connections between landscape, climate, and architecture. The reading of the territory, the study of the social structures, the attention to the itinerary and the close relationship with the environment are the fundamental strategies in the sixteen works and projects presented here, in four thematic sections; Built geographies, Voluntary Microcosms, Domestic Depth, and Patient Search.

The selection of 24 works reflects commitments to sustainability, materialised in buildings which use resources more efficiently. This includes refurbishments like Ombú for Acciona by Foster + Partners in Madrid and Palace-House by Tuñón & Albornoz in Cáceres. Nieto Sobejano and Alcolea, Ercilla, and Tárrago promote sustainability through courtyards and building orientation in university buildings, while other projects rely on low-impact, recyclable, or locally sourced materials like wood or ceramic.

Résumé:
If there is no doubt that "size matters", and that scale is one of the main factors in architecture, it is also true that the propositional interest of a building is independent from its size. To support this argument, the sixteen houses selected here represent the very different strategies and dimensions that can address domestic space. With size as organising element, the issue starts with a minimum shelter of less than 30 square meters in southern Australia, and includes examples that range from careful interventions on heritage to daring typological experiments, ending at the Chilean Andes with a large house-studio of over 2,000 square meters.

Résumé:
Experimentation and dialogue are central to the creative process of Fuensanta Nieto and Enrique Sobejano, and in their works light, matter, and space are as intimately connected as they are to landscape, history, and architecture. This is clear from the texts in which the architects themselves interpret each one of the twenty-two projects in the monograph at hand, a double volume which covers their career over the last twelve years, a fertile period in which the office, from its studios based in Madrid and Berlin, has strengthened its presence outside Spain, with buildings as the Arvo Pärt Center in Estonia, the Archive of the Avant-Garde, or Montblanc Haus, both in Germany.

It is not easy to name an architect who can invent as much, and as poetically and rigorously, as Kengo Kuma. This issue of AV Monographs takes stock of his firm’s extensive output of the past five years through 32 works and 8 projects, presenting them in five groups. From the New National Stadium of Japan which is nearing completion for the Olympic Games to the competition the studio won recently to extend the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, via works like the Victoria & Albert Museum in Scotland, the Cultural Village in the Portland Japanese Garden, the refurbishment of a traditional courtyard-house in Beijing or the Camper Store in Barcelona. This taxonomy gives a good idea of the scope of his ambition.
