Résumé:
In amusement parks and theme parks the role of architecture in generating an emotional experience has long outgrown its mere functional and structural aspects. This trend is now pervading shopping malls, airports, museums, and even banks. It is a trend that progressive architects will have to confront as it becomes an increasingly important feature for investors and users in our pleasure-seeking society. With a wealth of international examples ranging from the prototype Disneyland (where Walt Disney's concepts of animation were congenially transformed into reality) to historical amusement parks and modern day theme parks, "Animation" investigates this global trend in contemporary architecture for the first time. Visual images and analytical texts reveal how animation architecture functions, the effects it can achieve, and the uses it can be put to.

Résumé:
This urban research project examines the often overlooked areas known as "barrios," "shantytowns," or "slums" and assesses their validity as an architectural phenomenon in their own right. The hills outside Caracas are dotted with transient, dilapidated structures which are home to thousands of people who create their own socio-economic environment, one which has a unique place in the city's infrastructure. This publication can be understood as a handbook of informal urban and cultural practice. Its validity extends far beyond Caracas and encompasses nearly all Latin American metropolises. Its essays question the value of traditional Western-style socio-economic and socio-political structures, present a new form of urbanism as a subject for discussion, and show the need for a profound change in our understanding of urban culture, especially in today's era, which is characterized by increasing insecurity and uncertainty. This project was jointly initiated by the "Federal Cultural Foundation" of Germany and the "Urban Think Tank" in Caracas, Venezuela.

This first monograph on the young Berlin architects Armand Grüntuch and Almut Ernst presents more than a decade's worth of buildings and projects. With a diversity in style, Grüntuch Ernst Architects of Berlin have already established an international presence. This visually stunning overview of their work reflects the firm's experimental leanings and focuses on recent works in Berlin such as their new building at Hackescher Markt, a school, and an office building in Hamburg. The architects are currently working on a school and a police station and on prototypes of their so-called "floating homes."

Not all architectural renderings are done by straight edge or CAD program; not all spaces are visually related through blueprints. Impressive architectural spaces, spaces of atmospheric density, are also, and often to highly suggestive effect, created by hand. "Hand-Drawn Worlds" presents exemplary architectural drawings by 20 internationally-recognized contemporary architects and artists, among them Ken Adam, Alexander Brodskij, Lee Dunnette, Richard Ferrier, Zaha Hadid, Willem van den Hoed, Steven Holl, Syd Mead, Gottfried Müller, and Michael Sorkin. Flanked by related essays, fantastic rooms of great perfection and unmistakable character rise in more than 140 large-format illustrations. An essay on the history of architectural drawings completes the volume.

Résumé:
ANCB The Aedes Metropolitan Laboratory was launched in 2009 as a physical and intellectual space focused on the inseparable interplay between urban form and social life. Now in its eighth year, ANCB decided to broaden its experimental journey as an independent public platform with an annual magazine entitled The Metropolitan Laboratory that further explores our deliberate goal of providing an alternative urban discourse. Entitled “Education: Trial and Error”, this first issue looks at the topic of artistic and architectural education. As a survey of highly progressive pedagogical approaches, it questions the role of education in past, present, and future. The broad spectrum of articles and essays ranges from Black Mountain College, Joseph Beuys, Paul Thek, Cedric Price, and Oswald Ungers all the way to Beatriz Colomina, Olafur Eliasson, Ai Wei Wei, Thom Mayne, Odile Decq, Peter Cook, and Joan Ockmann, to mention but a few. Inherent to all of these contributions is a profound apprehension of the positive surplus of unsolicited changes, uninvited irritants, unanticipated setbacks, and failures as the future seeds of human achievement and progress.

Résumé:
With a focus on social reality and a respect for local context and vernacular craftsmanship, Liu Jiakun's work shows a rare attempt to translate and transfer traditional Chinese cultural ethos into contemporary architectural language, and represents a fine quality of intertexture between individual and collective memories. Many of these projects throw light on the reciprocal relation between Chinese people's public life and urban cultural space. Aedes exclusively presents mainly local projects in Chengdu including West Village Yard. The exhibition unfolds urban evolutionary history and the genius loci of the city, as well as demonstrates Chengdu's humanistic standpoint in practicing a new model of urbanization. It aims to open a new chapter of urban development dialogue between Germany and China.

Catalogue of the exhibition presenting the work of American architects Platform for Architecture + Research / PAR, founded by Jennifer Marmon in Los Angeles in 2003. Questioning the role and limits of architecture today, Marmon, together with her collective team, are part of a new generation of architects exploring universal topics as a means to expand their discipline in new ways. With its idea of a network of ‘relations’, the exhibition reflects the essential architectural elements that influence the office’s award winning work that aims to establish a dialogue with people as well as the urban fabric. The exhibition presents buildings, competition entries and urban studies that range in scale from small houses to museum concepts e.g. the Wilshire Tower in Los Angeles/US, the Taichung Cultural Center in Taichung/Taiwan, the Guggenheim Museum in Helsinki/Finland and the Lima Art Museum in Lima/Peru.

Résumé:
The "Green Heart" exhibition showcases the "Marina One" project by ingenhoven architects, which will open in the center of Singapore at the end of 2017. As an international role model for living and working, "Marina One" makes an innovative contribution to the discourse on mega-cities, especially in tropical regions, which, in the context of increasing population and climate change, face enormous challenges. The high-density building complex with its mix of uses extends to over 400,000 square meters and, with its group of four high-rise buildings, defines the "Green Heart"—a public space extending over several stories. This three-dimensional green oasis reflects the diversity of tropical flora.
