With a focus on social reality and a respect for local context and vernacular craftsmanship, Liu Jiakun's work shows a rare attempt to translate and transfer traditional Chinese cultural ethos into contemporary architectural language, and represents a fine quality of intertexture between individual and collective memories. Many of these projects throw light on the reciprocal relation between Chinese people's public life and urban cultural space. Aedes exclusively presents mainly local projects in Chengdu including West Village Yard. The exhibition unfolds urban evolutionary history and the genius loci of the city, as well as demonstrates Chengdu's humanistic standpoint in practicing a new model of urbanization. It aims to open a new chapter of urban development dialogue between Germany and China.

Catalogue of the exhibition presenting the work of American architects Platform for Architecture + Research / PAR, founded by Jennifer Marmon in Los Angeles in 2003. Questioning the role and limits of architecture today, Marmon, together with her collective team, are part of a new generation of architects exploring universal topics as a means to expand their discipline in new ways. With its idea of a network of ‘relations’, the exhibition reflects the essential architectural elements that influence the office’s award winning work that aims to establish a dialogue with people as well as the urban fabric. The "Green Heart" exhibition showcases the "Marina One" project by ingenhoven architects, which will open in the center of Singapore at the end of 2017. As an international role model for living and working, "Marina One" makes an innovative contribution to the discourse on mega-cities, especially in tropical regions, which, in the context of increasing population and climate change, face enormous challenges. The high-density building complex with its mix of uses extends to over 400,000 square meters and, with its group of four high-rise buildings, defines the "Green Heart"—a public space extending over several stories. This three-dimensional green oasis reflects the diversity of tropical flora.

Three places of growing up – the Institution for the Blind at Regensburg, the Cantonal School Rychenberg / Winterthur and the Lecture Hall, Zittau – three concepts for a school environment. A different framework determines the progam and the utilization of each respective building type. Realization of the projects with their specific requirements was preceded by an open competition. Award winners are young offices realizing their first big project with this commission. The works of these young architects are displayed in this exhibition for the first time. The Institution for the Blind by Georg Scheel Wetzel Architekten : a partial or complete loss of the sense of sight determined the layout of the complex. In order to enable children to find their way in the building, a strong focus lies on the senses of touch and hearing. Hence, the building is organized on a single floor and the choice of materials underlines the haptic experience of the interior and outer spaces. Apart from the school rooms, the building also provides units of accommodation for stays up to several days. The Cantonal School Rychenberg / Winterthur by Haberland Architekten,,an extension of the building erected in 1960 – 63 by Eric Lanter and a continuation of the Corbusian composition, at the same time utilizes exposed concrete for its façades. All functions are accommodated within an elongated construction consisting of a base and a cube placed above it. Situated off the existing buildings, the base is accessible from the slope and serves as terrace and recess area. It contains class rooms as well as a multi-use sports gym with weights and gymnastics facilities. The cube accommodates a media center and music rooms and is situated between the main building and the hall. The Lecture Hall in Zittau by Tilmann Bock Norbert Sachs Architekten marks the beginnings of a new location for higher education. The new campus center consists of one large and three smaller lecture halls and is completed by two seminar rooms. The lecture hall building is characterized by a fluid spatial movement and accessibility. Starting from the central campus place, the foyer opens up the internal room plan moving past accesses to the lecture halls and a mezzanine toward the upper floor. The open theater on the roof terrace may be used as "open air" lecture hall or as event space for the university.

The exhibition illustrates the variety of leisure spas and thermal baths realized by the architectural practice 4a Architekten from Stuttgart, Germany. Accessible for visitors from viewpoints resembling starting blocks, the room installation is made up of models and platforms suspended over a water pool. Enhancing the experience of visiting an actual swimming pool, in-depth information to each project is provided in a row of lockers. Via projections on the walls and on the water surface, visitors also become emotionally involved in the bathing activities and the architectural diversity of 4a Architekten.

The architects Alfredo Brillembourg and Hubert Klumpner, over the last ten years, have developed the Caracas/Venezuela based Urban-Think Tank (UTT) into an international network to face the challenges of uncontrolled urban growth in the dense informal centers of the 21st century Mega-cities. The exhibit will include photos, videos and projects that question the notion of contemporary architecture and urbanism that pulls together some of the Urban Think Tanks most consistent propositions. UTT has moved to propose design solutions, to make that crucial passage from protest to project in an effort to make a real impact in Caracas and in Europe and North America, presenting the relevance of their ideas for the Stadtwerk in Salzburg and for a Vertical Gym in Spanish Harlem, New York. ‘Moderating Urban Density’ exhibit shows how negotiation and design can work in the interface between the social conflicts and the production of new urban infrastructures, architecture, and sustainable human environments in the so called “barrios” of the informal mega city.
