Résumé:
Part-to-part relationships and the approach to governing their sensibilities is at the root of all architecture. The need for engaging in a dialogue around these systems is essential to contemporary architectural discourse and practice. ''Assembly'' builds on and extends the investigations of materials and representation techniques in the editors’ previous books, ''Matter and Lineament''. This book uses a collection of detailed case studies, explained by first-person authors, about experimental and innovative takes on assembling architecture. Bridging theory and practice, 17 projects and their principled approaches each demonstrate an important vein of inquiry within the topic. Essays probe issues such as latent and overt geometry, fabrication and technology, part-to-part elements, joinery and representation, material vernacular geometries, labor and place-based contextual assemblies, detailing, and pedagogical examinations. This text articulates the traditions and trends of material as the defining premise in the contemporary making of architecture. Its outcomes are applicable to beginning students of architecture and advanced practitioners alike.

Résumé:
There are no perfect public spaces. Public space is constantly changing, shifting, never quite fixed. It is formed by laws, by regulations, by private ownership, and by city management. Public spaces are influenced both by the people who oversee them and by those who use them. And because of these facts, public spaces are never neutral. In "ublic Spaces, NY," Michael Meredith and Hilary Sample document and analyze Manhattan’s parks, streets, community gardens, privately owned public spaces, recreation areas, waterfronts, and cemeteries. Their book seeks to understand their design, construction and management, and provides detailed drawings of both the spaces themselves and speculative illustrations about how the public uses the spaces. By examining how public spaces facilitate or hinder inclusion, and by detailing the conflicts and negotiations they provoke, this book creates a discourse to reimagine the future of public life in the United States’ densest city.

Résumé:
In this book, Michael Meredith speculates on the possibilities of what Robin Evans once described as a "smaller architecture." "Smaller Architecture" rejects the Larger Architecture that has come to dominate in the last thirty years, with the globalization of architecture, with what Rem Koolhaas celebrated as "Bigness," and with the embrace of new forms of large-scale finance and corporate management. Against the speculative financial models that define Larger Architecture and its rapacious mechanisms of real estate development, Meredith's vision for a "Smaller Architecture" proposes economic and social forms along the lines sketched out by the economist E. F. Schumacher and the urban theorist Jane Jacobs, and inspired by the philosophical writings of Emanuele Coccia, Edouard Glissant and Cornell West. Against the abstract and hierarchical business management models of large corporate firms, "Smaller Architecture" imagines local, radically inclusive, and anarchist forms of organization in smaller practices.

Résumé:
Beginning with material, this book revolves around physical material making and design decisions that emerge from material interaction. Combining essays from both practice and academia, this book presents some of the most significant projects and thoughts on materiality from the last decade. Beautifully illustrated with a great deal of technical information throughout, it shows work, technical technique and process, and positions it within a broader theoretical intention. By assembling a range of voices, here is a multifaceted portrait of material design today. Students and design professionals alike should find in this book an essential resource for understanding this increasingly important aspect of design.

Résumé:
An exploration into media and architecture, Everything All at Once features the experimental work of the New York City-based studio MOS. By exchanging plans and sections for software and film, the firm moves beyond the static forms of traditional architectural discourse and exposes a working technique that is inventive, playful and primitive. In this vibrant publication, partners Michael Meredith and Hilary Sample weave together a visual narrative of computation, representation and design. Showcasing over twenty five projects on screen and in built form, including the acclaimed thatch covered structures from the 2009 PS1 After Party and the mylar weather balloon installation at the 2010 Venice Biennale, the book provides a unique look at the process of one of the most innovative firms at work today.

Résumé:
Their work has been described as experimental and innovative, qualities front-and-center in their previous collection Everything All at Once. In just ten years, Michael Meredith and Hilary Sample have established MOS as one of the leading young architecture practices in the country. Selected Works, the first monograph on the built work of the New York–based firm, follows the design studio's evolution from their earliest works to their most celebrated houses and institutional buildings. The thirty-two projects featured range from the sophisticated to the absurd—from the serene Floating House in Ontario, Canada, and the sustainable Kathmandu Orphanage in Nepal to the playful puppet theater at Harvard's Carpenter Center and the appropriately named Rainbow Vomit installation in New York, a digital, interactive, computational heap of building blocks in a constant state of near collapse. The collection also includes a selection of the couple's unorthodox writings, including their satirical "Office Policy" employee manual.

They end where they began, imagining what’s next. 'Houses for Sale' was written and illustrated by Michael Meredith and Hilary Sample of MOS. The book is both a children’s glossary of architectural form and the true story of lifelong curiosity.

Ils terminent où ils ont commencé, imaginant la suite. « Maison à vendre » a été écrit et illustré par Michael Meredith et Hilary Sample, de MOS.
