Résumé:
This book compiles the RCR Arquitectes own unique cosmogony: a vision of humans, of nature and life in general that transcends mere architecture. Nature and history is the physical place that has been chosen to develop a space by RCR Arquitectes to conceive and experiment and to rethink man's relationship with the world. This physical space is located in the La Vila, in the Bianya Valley (Catalonia), surrounded by woods, water, farmland, country houses, etc. It's a creative, experimental project, and one that is constantly evolving. Technological advances and innovation are applied on an experiential basis in this landscape. New realities are generated, like the humanitacle, a project about the synthesis of man and the built habitat in relation to the surroundings, nature and technology, and la dona i l 'home nu´vol (cloud woman and cloud man), creative beings par excellence and creators of reality. This book introduces this utopia under construction.

Résumé:
The British architect David Chipperfield (born 1953) founded his eponymous design firm in 1985, and has been an exemplary exponent of modernism and its ongoing relevance ever since. The confident elegance of his buildings extends a legacy of discreet craftsmanship and clarity learned from early 20th-century architecture: "If you look at a building by Mies van der Rohe," he observes, "it might look very simple, but up close, the sheer quality of construction, materials and thought are inspirational.""David Chipperfield Architects: Monograph Vol. II" brings the architect's most comprehensive monograph back into print in an updated edition that features 32 new works by Chipperfield's firm. More than 60 projects are represented in this volume, from Chipperfield's early buildings in Japan to the many major museums and galleries, residential and commercial developments, flagship stores and educational buildings built by the practice around the world today.

There are few art-world figures as influential - and as little known - as Dick Higgins (1938–98), cofounder of Fluxus, "polyartist," poet, scholar, theorist, composer, performer and, not least, the publisher of the legendary Something Else Press. In 1965 he restored the term "intermedia" to the English language, giving it new dimension to recognize the dissolution of boundaries between traditional modes of art-making and the open field for new forms that cannot be compartmentalized. His own contributions to intermedia are many - as a participant and instigator of happenings, as writer and composer straddling traditional and vanguard forms, among others - but it was Something Else Press (1963–74) that redefined how "the book" could inhabit that energized, in-between space.

Résumé:
Santiago Calatrava is an intimate insight into one of the world’s most celebrated architects. Calatrava first made a name for himself in the late 1980s, with delicately designed structures in Zürich that seem to grow out of the earth. He went on to create a series of highly innovative, iconic bridges across Europe and, in recent years, has drawn attention for such large-scale projects as the City of Arts and Sciences in his birth town of Valencia, Spain, and the World Transportation Hub at Ground Zero in New York. Written in the first person and accompanied by a wealth of sketches never seen outside Calatrava’s studio, this book reveals the breadth of his influences, and how they have combined with his background in engineering and architecture to inspire his signature buildings.

Curated by Jennifer Gray, the exhibition ‘Frank Lloyd Wright Between USA and Italy’ at Turin’s Pinacoteca Agnelli is devoted to the drawings and designs of the famous American architect. Wright first visited Italy in 1910; there he would elaborate the ideals of a democratic architecture, closely connected to nature, that inspired his work and that of many Italian architects. In 1935 Edoardo Persico’s thoughts on Wright precipitated a decades-long engagement with the theory of organic architecture and its implications for Italian culture. This exhibition catalogue details the relationship between Wright and Italy, from prairie houses and skyscrapers to public projects.

Résumé:
Works by Renzo Piano are distinguished by a unique interplay of functional, technical and aesthetic aspects. An architect with no recognisable trademark style, Renzo Piano has nevertheless designed some of the most famous buildings in the world: among them the Pompidou Centre, the headquarters of the New York Times, the Shard Tower in London, the Whitney Museum in New York and the recently completed Palace of Justice in Paris. Renowned as a master of construction technology, the Pritzker Prize winner uses a wide variety of materials and construction methods to create buildings whose designs are heavily inspired by location and function. This monograph presents twelve works that were published in the DETAIL magazine in recent years.
