The new "A.MAG Long Collection" presents a single project by a single architect in a special graphic design format that distinguishes it from other collections the magazine publishes. Each instalment will document works of different scales and formal contexts. This unique selection of projects which establish new paradigms in architecture begins with David Adjaye’s Mole House. The derelict property in the London borough of Hackney, made infamous by a landlord who incessantly tunnelled underneath it without a permit, was completely renovated by the architect as a three-storey live/work space that also serves as a single-family dwelling for artist Sue Weber.

Richard Murphy is a multi award-winning architect. The materials he employs vary from stone (rubble, smooth ashlar or rusticated), with carefully assembled steel sections that form the structure, stairs and handrails, corrugated iron or planted roofing, dressed lead flashing, etched glass blocks, mirrors, with timber and coloured and polished plaster as warm interior finishes. All the materials are used with great precision, clarity as well as ambiguity. He is well known as an architect who has been influenced by the Italian architect Carlo Scarpa (about whom he has written the definitive analysis of his most important work, the Castelvecchio Museum in Verona), but Murphy’s architecture is never a pastiche of Scarpa, and frequently echoes and develops other influences such as Glenn Murcutt, Frank Lloyd Wright or Richard MacCormac, for whom he worked.

''Inventive Modernist'' tracks the scope and significance of Frey's career, from his early days in Paris working with Le Corbusier to his rise as the iconic architect of Palm Springs. With full access to Frey's various archives, the book provides many rare and previously unexhibited architectural models, drawings, films, photographs, and furniture, and offers an exceptional visual guide that goes far beyond the mere documentation of finished buildings. New academic research, in-depth essays, and a thorough, illustrated listing of the architect's projects between 1925 and 1997 serve to contextualize Frey's relevance today while securing his importance as a twentieth-century architectural master.

Résumé:
For over a decade, Brooklyn-based architecture firm SO–IL has been envisioning houses and other projects in between and adjacent to domestic spaces. Reflecting on the state of housing design today, often constrained by pressures of production, SO–IL approaches these projects with generous experimentation. They adapt and adjust the architectural and physical "body languages" of domesticity while operating through the framing and occupation of liminal spaces. The projects featured in "In Depth" represent SO-IL’s attempt to "hack" the codes, cores, courts and corridors; to stretch and inhabit "inefficiencies"; to turn the old stones and bring fragments of buried treasures from the past into the present; to question if housing for all should be the yardstick for the shelters of our souls; and to ask the future generations what kind of home we should design for them.

In their first comprehensive architectural monograph, the architects of DEMOGO explore the driving question of the importance of context for their architecture and invite designers and theorists to reflect with them on the relationship between contemporary spaces and complex contexts. Built and planned projects are presented in chronological order with specially produced drawings and models. The most remarkable buildings and contexts are captured through the eyes of renowned photographer Iwan Baan. The guest authors Petra Blaisse, Pippo Ciorra, Giovanni Corbellini, Sara Marini and Alberto Bertagna also shed light on central questions of DEMOGO's work and supplement the monograph with a variety of perspectives and personal reflections.

Résumé:
"Event-Cities 5" is the fifth and final volume in the MIT Press series documenting recent built and unbuilt projects by renowned architect Bernard Tschumi. This volume expands on the theoretical preoccupations that have shaped Tschumi's work in practice and pedagogy. In this volume, Tschumi embarks on what he calls a “poetics” that addresses both the rational elaboration of work and the irrational eruption of inexplicable elements in architectural projects. How do chance, intuition, and analogy, among other elements, intersect with the logical play of concept, context, and program to generate innovative and informed design? Highlights of this volume include circular building projects, works with suspended gardens and floating rectangular masses, superposed structures created via surrealist tactics, an immense educational research complex in France that hovers between building and urban design, a museum in China made from intersecting conic shapes, and a project for a cultural center in Italy that is structured as an investigation into courtyards and facades.

Résumé:
In "Albert Kahn Inc." Claire Zimmerman provides a history of second-wave industrialization associated with the growth and development of the United States auto industry and its global footprint. A forensic analysis of the "architects of Ford," the book theorizes how building and capitalism intersected in the case of twentieth-century industrial buildings, but also in other kinds of architecture and in the built environment writ large. Generally a marginal subject in histories of architecture, industrialism here exposes the expansionist modern project in Western architecture and culture, which was based on natural resource extraction and labor exploitation. With more than 140 full-color illustrations, the book combines an analysis of industrial architecture with compelling photographic evidence drawn from assorted archives.
