Résumé:
A pioneer of modernist architecture, Giuseppe Terragni (1904-1943) produced some of Italy's most significant 20th century buildings. Celebrating the centenary of Terragni's birth, “The Terragni Atlas” presents a visual record of this influential architect whose work is experiencing renewed international interest. In a short and intense career, Terragni created a small but remarkable group of designs that form the nucleus of the Italian Rationalist school of architecture. “The Terragni Atlas” presents the architecture of Terragni through a juxtaposition of archival images and contemporary photographs by Paolo Rosselli.

Résumé:
"The architecture of Duany Plater-Zyberk and Company is a monograph on the urban design and architecture firm started by Andrés Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk in 1980 and is now known simply as DPZ. Credited with popularizing small towns and villages as welcome alternatives to the bleak monotony of the suburbs, DPZ champions vernacular architecture (traditional buildings with ties to local culture) in neighborhoods that share the same common features that made small-town living so livable. This book illustrates representative buildings, mainly houses, that make up some of these communities in such places as Seaside, Florida, Kentlands, Maryland, and Markham, Ontario. In addition, the book showcases individual buildings that demonstrate DPZ’s reinvigoration of a simple vernacular architecture, including the Hibiscus House in Coconut Grove, Florida, and the Carambola Villas in St. Croix.

This book chronicles the planning and construction process of the Frank Gehry-designed Ray and Maria Stata Center at MIT. Taking us from the historical background and architectural context at MIT through the interaction of the clients' needs and the architect's vision to the choice of building materials and construction methods, "Building Stata" offers a detailed look at the evolution of a major work by a master architect. The purpose of the Stata Center is to bring the "intelligence sciences" - computer science, artificial intelligence, information and decision systems, linguistics, and philosophy - together into a space that emphasizes research-focused collaboration. Frank Gehry's design integrates flexible and interconnected workspaces and incorporates a series of steps from public to private space, with places for social and intellectual interaction on lower levels giving way to space for study and contemplation on the upper floors; thus a two-level warehouse-like space is topped by two towers. The Center is wrapped around a series of outdoor terraces visible from a central court in both towers. The characteristic Gehry curves are clad in metal, the more block-like elements in brick. The architectural drawings and photographs in "Building Stata" document the making of the Stata Center from concept to concrete reality. The photographs by Richard Sobol portray a work in progress, evoking the beauty of its architectural form and capturing the telling detail - the building's sculptured shape against a clear blue sky, or construction workers perched on a massive curve of metal.

Résumé:
This book examines forty projects representing the exemplary work of the internationally renowned architecture firm KSP Engel and Zimmermann. In the course of the past several years, KSP Engel and Zimmermann has become one of the most successful architecture firms in Germany. The firm now has offices in Berlin, Braunschweig, Frankfurt, Cologne, and Munich. Its projects include office buildings, hospitals, schools, libraries, sports facilities and residential architecture. KSP Engel and Zimmermann's rich architectural language covers a broad spectrum-from sensitive intervention in existing structures to striking high-rise buildings. This book features an interview in which the two architects clarify their approach to architecture, their curiosity about building abroad, and their recent success. Essays by Peter Davey, editor-in-chief of Architectural Review, and Ingeborg Flagge, director of the Deutsches Architektur Museum, provide a portrait of these self-assured yet open-minded and highly pragmatic architects. The book illustrates the firm's architectural and planning competence in a presentation of forty different projects, including the Federal Press Office in Berlin, the Trade Fair Forum in Frankfurt, Volkswagen Hall in Braunschweig, the Bertelsmann Foundation building in Gütersloh, and a number of high-rise projects in Frankfurt.

Résumé:
Over 20 years ago, architect Renzo Piano established his firm and dubbed it the Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW)--a name that recalls the art studios of the Renaissance, where the master artist worked closely and actively with his apprentices. Students have always been an active component of the Building Workshop, functioning in a team with experienced architects and other experts, contributing to an international array of projects from two studio bases: one in Paris and one in Genoa, Italy. This small, intimate publication presents essays on both the Building Workshop and Piano himself, together with photographs of the two studios and of completed RPBW structures.
