The most pivotal and yet least understood event of Frank Lloyd Wright’s celebrated life involves the brutal murders in 1914 of seven adults and children dear to the architect and the destruction by fire of Taliesin, his landmark residence, near Spring Green, Wisconsin. Supplying both a gripping mystery story and a portrait of the artist in his prime, William Drennan wades through the myths surrounding Wright and the massacre, casting fresh light on the formulation of Wright’s architectural ideology and the cataclysmic effects that the Taliesin murders exerted on the fabled architect and on his subsequent designs.

How do you translate Giorgio Armani into architecture? For the Armani/Ginza Tower, it was essential to project not only Giorgio Armani s creativity as a designer, but his one and only personality, recreating the atmosphere of the atelier of the Italian creative genius, as well as his aesthetic code and personal image. How do you combine the concept of luxury with restrained elegance, the concept of absolute modernity with a lasting style... the Armani style? In Tokyo, for the first time ever, the entirety of his work and image is represented in a single building.

Résumé:
This book is the first to explore Berke’s remarkable career as an architect, designer, teacher, and writer who has forged a strong and evolving aesthetic. As examined in a series of engaging essays, Berke’s architecture blends tectonic coherence, a keen sensitivity to the intrinsic qualities of materials, and meticulous attention to detail. While all of her work possesses these distinctive attributes, each project is subtly rooted in its context and ennobles the uses specific to that space. Through newly commissioned photographs, twenty-one of Berke’s thought-provoking projects appear here, including the Irwin Union Bank, Yale School of Art, 21c Museum Hotel, and Marianne Boesky Gallery. Also featured are Berke’s reflections on her growing interest in the “here and now”—an approach to architecture intended to counteract the banal placelessness of much of our environment by designing buildings that are intensely bound to and grounded in their sites. Tracy Myers is curator at the Heinz Architectural Center of the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh. Amy Hempel is a fiction writer whose publications include Tumble Home (1997) and The Dog of the Marriage (2005).

From David Raponi's introduction: 'HOV was born as an answer to the need of emersion from clandestineness of some personal passions of mine, first of all the love for sculpture amd then for quantum physics, mathematics and cognitive biology. These discipline are sometimes close to architecture, but they are certainly as far from professional practice as from research activities. Nevertheless this discrepancy is not a real one since hypothesis such as Maturana's multi-versus and Bohm's holographic imagery are definitely more courageous, daring and creative than most of modern literature or art.
