Résumé:
Shigeru Ban has earned much praise for his wide-ranging activities and innovative approach to addressing contemporary problems through architecture and design, such as using recycled cardboard tubes as a structural material to provide housing for disaster victims. Besides his dedication to humanitarian efforts, Ban’s interest in materials expresses his minimalist ideology, one that often leads him to choose existing materials and techniques over state-of-the-art solutions. Ban was involved in selecting the more than 100 important works in this publication, divided into five categories, that together reflect a clear departure from other architects of his generation.

Résumé:
In light of the reawakening interest in R. Buckminster Fuller’s works and thoughts, and of their growing importance for our technological world, it is time for a reedition of this comprehensive and legendary publication from 1999. The visual reader "Your Private Sky" examines and documents Fuller’s theories, ideas and projects, and critically deals with his ideology of “rescue through technology.” This book provides a highly multifaceted insight into Fuller’s world, also showing many of its less known sides. Buckminster Fuller (1895–1983) was one of the most revolutionary technological visionaries of the 20th century. He established new standards that can be seen as decisive for future-capable design. “How to make the world work” – to this task he dedicated his unflagging attention. Convinced that specialists usually create more problems than they solve, he developed his concept for a vision of the whole.

Frank Lloyd Wright is known as the architect of an enduring modern American vision, but was himself extremely well-travelled, with journeys to far-flung corners of the world serving as opportunities to develop and promote his globalising ‘organic’ philosophy. Visits to Japan and Germany informed his Prairie House period, his Usonian manifesto was presented in Russia and the UK, and later he spent time in Italy and the Middle East during his Legacy period. Gwyn Lloyd Jones retraces Lloyd Wright’s footsteps in a fascinating globetrotting narrative that reveals Lloyd Wright’s architectural legacy as having emerged from what was, at the time, a newly globalised era of architectural production. Along the way the author meets the people who are living with and experiencing Lloyd Wright’s ‘organic’ architecture today and asks whether the buildings remain true to Lloyd Wright’s intent and what it is that makes them unique.

Résumé:
In May 1939, the celebrated American architect Frank Lloyd Wright visited London and gave four lectures at the Royal Institute of British Architects. The meetings were hailed at the time as the most remarkable events of recent architectural affairs in England, and the lectures were published as An Organic Architecture in September 1939 by Lund Humphries. The texts remain an important expression of the architect’s core philosophy and are being reissued now in a new edition to commemorate the 150th anniversary in 2017 of Frank Lloyd Wright’s birth. In the lectures, Frank Lloyd Wright discusses several of his recent projects, including his Usonian houses, his homes and studios at Taliesin, Wisconsin and Arizona, Fallingwater and the Johnson administration building. His charismatic, flamboyant character and hugely creative intelligence leap to life from the pages as he looks to the ‘Future’, both in terms of the then-imminent Second World War and his vision for cities.
