Résumé:
The eighteen members of the London-based architecture collective Assemble began collaborating in 2010, following their graduation from Cambridge University. In the years since, they have built projects across a wide range of style and function, including a temporary cinema at a former gas station, affordable workspaces for artists, the foundation of social enterprises, the revitalization of a former working-class neighborhood, and designing a new art gallery for Goldsmiths, University of London. To all of their projects they bring an awareness of the social, economic, and political conditions of a society, with the aim of changing the status quo through enabling community action. This volume offers a look at the work of the collective, presenting a closer look at ten selected projects, along with essays that present background information and reflections on Assemble’s objectives and philosophy.

Kazuo Shinohara (1925–2006) is one of the greatest and most influential architects of Japan's postwar generation.Shinohare himself divided his creative work into four styles. In placing his later, institutional scale works of his fourth style, which have been overlooked until now, alongside the iconic houses of his earlier career, this book establishes the architect’s insistence on the equivalation between the house and the city. New scholarly essays, interviews with clients and collaborators, and translations of Shinohara’s key texts are complemented by previously unpublished archival drawings and personal travel photographs by Shinohara. The volume reframes his architectural achievements in terms of his oeuvre as a whole and situates them in the broader cultural and social context in Japan and globally.

Résumé:
Catalogue of the exhibition presenting the work of American architects Platform for Architecture + Research / PAR, founded by Jennifer Marmon in Los Angeles in 2003. Questioning the role and limits of architecture today, Marmon, together with her collective team, are part of a new generation of architects exploring universal topics as a means to expand their discipline in new ways. With its idea of a network of ‘relations’, the exhibition reflects the essential architectural elements that influence the office’s award winning work that aims to establish a dialogue with people as well as the urban fabric. The exhibition presents buildings, competition entries and urban studies that range in scale from small houses to museum concepts e.g. the Wilshire Tower in Los Angeles/US, the Taichung Cultural Center in Taichung/Taiwan, the Guggenheim Museum in Helsinki/Finland and the Lima Art Museum in Lima/Peru.

Résumé:
Moshe Safdie achieved worldwide recognition as an architect when his very first building, Habitat 67, at Expo in Montreal, proved to be eminently livable. He was also enthusiastically praised as a writer on architectural and human values after the publication of his first book, Beyond Habitat (The MIT Press, 1970). He has since added to his luster a number of exciting architectural projects, and now this second book, For Everyone a Garden, goes beyond Beyond Habitat in several ways: it provides further detail and technical specificity of Safdie's experience with industrialized building methods for architects and engineers; it updates the status of ongoing projects; and, best of all, it throws off a cascade of sparkling new ideas about people, building, planning, sites, processes, and their interactions. The book is an integral synthesis of words and pictures. The greater part of its total net area is devoted to illustrations—about 125 drawings, 165 halftones, and 5 color photographs, supported by substantial captions—while the text proper puts these into perspective from four thematic points of view: the idea of the three-dimensional community; the requirements and possibilities of human habitation, ranging in amenity from the minimal to the luxurious; the techniques of building in the factory, with a case study that includes a typical plant layout and simplified flow diagrams; and the attributes of well-planned urban meeting places, whether in Jerusalem, Paris, or San Francisco.
