Résumé:
Guillermo Hevia García stands out among the latest generation of Chilean architects for his sensitive focus on his projects’ public impact, expressed in the ways his buildings obey their own internal logic and respect their local cultural, social and spatial contexts.''Every Design Conceals an Order'' compiles 13 of the architect’s designs: built works, projects currently underway and competition entries. Each building is accompanied by a section on the architecture’s imaginary context, the visual references Hevia García mobilized in his working process. The publication also shows Hevia García’s approaches to architectural representation, as he deploys techniques ranging from planimetrics, axonometric projections and models, renders and illustrations.

Résumé:
With ''The Wandering Maker,'' Machiel Spaan hopes to make a contribution to architectural design as a discipline that requires time and thought – a sincere search for the right place, craftsmanship, material, and space. He sheds light on the discovery of space by way of his personal experiences from his own practice, the Amsterdam-based office M3H, from his role as an educator, and from his impressions gained from travelling, reading, and contemplating. The stories connect doing, seeing, and learning. In his mind, 'creation' can be divided into seven skills that together drive the design and creation process: looking, playing, creating, moving, imagining, constructing, and unravelling.

Architect João Luís Carrilho da Graça has been active since the early 1990s, and has produced a range of built works throughout his native Portugal. In a preface to this guide he writes, “However intense and persistent our attention to the programme, the site, the construction system, and the detail we do not wish to show, much of it is fragile. The more we build, the greater the map of our concerns.” Featuring more than 40 projects, the guide serves as both a documentation of the architect’s prolific output and an in-depth examination of his style and approach. It includes extensive textual analyses by Michel Toussaint and Marta Sequeira, as well as detailed profiles of each built work.

Résumé:
This volume presents the ArtLab project, which highlights the intersection of science, art, and the public at the Lausanne Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) in Switzerland. Designed by the renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, ArtLab is a symbolic place of art, culture, and technology. The project combines three structures: the first is a welcome area to learn about the university's research, the second structure is an exhibition space that hosts art installations, while the third pavilion houses the newly digitized Montreux Jazz Festival archives and a café. The three pavilions are connected, constituting a single building with a folded roof, a topographical flow, and a hybrid steel and wood frame. ArtLab is located near buildings by SANAA and Dominique Perrault, forming a new heart for the EPFL campus.

Résumé:
Marco Bakker and Alexandre Blanc established their architectural firm, BABL Bakker and Blanc Architects, in Switzerland in 1992. At their offices in Lausanne and Zurich, they develop designs that are modest yet reflect the high demands of the built environment. ''Darwin’s theatre: BABL at work'' documents more than twenty-five years of the firm’s work and demonstrates their vision and approach through a selection of thirty-four built and unrealized designs. Inspired by Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s famous painting of the Tower of Babel, the book is conceived as a chronological spiral stairway to heaven that represents the evolution of eternal questions concerning space and time. This innovative concept reflects BABL’s continuous work on recurring questions and the realization that each of their projects is an iteration of earlier ideas.

Résumé:
Since its establishment in 1996, Vienna-based driendl*architects has searched for prototypical solutions in the fields of infrastructure and furniture, building, and urban design. The understanding that we are always situated within the built environment is a thread running through each of the firm’s individual projects, as well as between the chapters of this new book, the first on driendl*architects’s vision and work. "Ritual / Original" looks at two decades of work by driendl*architects. During this time, our environment has changed rapidly and significantly, and this is reflected in the evolution of the ideas and concepts that underlie the firm’s buildings and projects. Offering unparalleled insight into the inner workings of driendl*architects, the book explores selected designs and the firm’s approach more broadly.
