This exploration of Leonardo da Vinci's life and work identifies what it was that made him so unique and explains the phenomenon of the world's most celebrated genius who, 500 years on, still grips and inspires us. Martin Kemp offer us exceptional insights into what it was that made this Renaissance man so special, and the 'real' meaning behind such masterpieces as The Mona Lisa and the Last Supper. Tracing Leonardo's career in all its variety, we learn of his unfulfilled dreams, relationships with powerful patrons, and the truth about his religious views. Kemp cuts through the dense veil of legend, challenges the myths, and offers an unparalleled portrait of this extraordinary man.

The architecture of Alex Popov is firmly grounded in an abstract monumentality. His response is not mimetic, it does not attempt to merge into or become one within a particular context, but rather establishes a relationship through juxtaposition and contrast, the framing of views, and the light filled spatial experience within. The architect's recent work has become one of the most significant expressions of Australian contemporary architecture. Ten recent projects are examined here through sketches, formal drawings and colour photographs.

Résumé:
In this book we present three projects - UCA (University of Central Asia, Naryn Campus), MM (project MURAYAMA), HUA (Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture) that are currently in progress in places where the culture and climate happen to be very different. Common to all three is an expansive lot. And regardless of the length of our involvement, all of the projects are now underway. In repeatedly visiting the sites, one things we realized was that in one way or another they were all still in the process of being 'cultivated', while in the past, we might have used the word 'developed'. What exactly, then, is the difference betwee 'cultivating' and 'developing'? -Kazuhiro Kojima + Kazuko Akamatsu
