Résumé:
"Once upon a time, Rome was entirely reachable by car, as if the city were a vast expanse, left openly accessible: You could park anywhere, and the squares were not mere scenery but spaces for everyday use, places to be crossed, occupied and lived in. Reaching the heart of the city was a right, a need, a natural and familiar matter, never a fault. It was a time when modern citizens felt most at home in the historic centre, from ancient to medieval Rome, from the Renaissance polis to that of the Baroque period, from eighteenth-century Rome to that under King Umberto and right through to the twentieth century. The book traces the history of freedom of movement prior to the advent of limited traffic zones, railway rings, pedestrian areas and the utopia of the smart city. Paradoxically, this book explores the future of Rome through what has become forbidden."

Résumé:
Albania is a young democracy, home to nearly three million people. The country sits at the heart of the Mediterranean; its geographic location has long shaped the country’s cultural exchanges and built environment. Three decades after the collapse of the communist regime, Albania remains in transition – culturally, socially and architecturally. This ongoing renewal has placed architecture at the center of national discourse and created a specific opportunity for architects. “The Albanian Files” focuses on that transformation. This book brings together sixty international offices currently working in Albania, some of which have been active in the country since the early 2000s. Each office submitted a contribution with reflections on their experiences in Albania and on architecture built and proposed.

"For me, the fascination with post-war Italian architecture stems in no small part from direct exposure to it – a familiarity that comes from teaching at the Accademia di Architettura in Mendrisio and countless visits to the country that lies just across the border." Written between 2012 and 2025, this is a collection of texts about the author's fascination with Italy and his interest in its architecture and urban culture. Many of the papers are adapted from lectures and course notes for students, and based on a way of working which prioritises learning by looking and advocates that architectural design should be rooted in the detailed observation of the existing.

This is the first publication on the Prague Werkbund Housing Estate "Baba", a symbol of architectural Modernism in the Czech Republic. Up until the fall of the Iron Curtain, the housing estate "Baba" in Prague was a little-known tip. This was the last building exhibition which the Werkbund set up in Europe in 1932 and symbolises an entire era, vividly depicting Modern Architecture in the Czech Republic, which has gained growing international recognition since 1989. Three generations of architects were active here; the older generation, still influenced by Cubism, include Janak and Gocar; the middle generation, whose works were purist and functionalist, include Linhart and Stary; and the younger generation, for example, Ladislav Zak, who with their sweeping forms wished to distance themselves from 'white functionalism'. With copious, unpublished source material, this book analyses for the first time the particular status which the Prague Housing Estate has in architectural history. It addresses architectural and sociopolitical topics, documents the individual projects and looks at the circumstances of the private clients.
