Résumé:
This book accompanies Saying It, an exhibition by artists Mieke Bal & Michelle Williams Gamaker and Renate Ferro at the Freud Museum, London, curated by Joanne Morra. Besides images, and descriptions of the works in the exhibition written by the artists themselves, the book contains new essays by Cathy Caruth, Marjorie Garber, Miguel Á. Hernández-Navarro, Ranjana Khanna and Joanne Morra, as well as a foreword by Carol Seigel, Director of the Freud Museum. Together, the artists’ words and those of the other authors underscore the significance of Saying It as what Morra terms a ‘site-responsive’ exhibition : not only do Bal & Williams Gamaker and Ferro shed light on key concepts of psychoanalysis (psychosis, transference, screen memories), but they reveal new layers of narrative and meaning enfolded in the site where their work is displayed, namely the former home of Anna and Sigmund Freud, now a world-renowned museum and archive.

Résumé:
The third volume in the series of urban readers centres around the term synergy and uses the internet as an artificial urban space connecting the makers and the contributors. This issue is team work. People who live in different cities, countries, and even continents work together without meeting in person. Synergies exist when different elements interact and produce a result that any individual part could not achieve alone. This book, as a combined whole aims at supporting the assumption that the generated synergy is more than just the sum of its parts.

Résumé:
Gutai: Splendid Playground surveys the influential Japanese collective and artistic movement. This exhibition catalogue aims to demonstrate the range of bold and innovative creativity present in the avant-garde movement, to examine the aesthetic strategies in the cultural, social and political context of postwar Japan and the West, and to further establish Gutai in an expanded, transnational history and critical discourse of modern art. Organized thematically and chronologically to explore Gutai’s unique approach to materials, concepts, process, performativity and enviroment, this publication investigates the group’s radical experimentation across a range of media and styles, and demonstrates how individual artists pushed the limits of what art could be or mean in a post-atomic era. The range includes painting, conceptual art, performance, film, installation art, sound art, interactive art, light art and kinetic art.

The book, which accompanies an exhibition originating at the Hayward Gallery, London, showcases more than twenty dramatic installations and sculptures from the 1960s to the present, pictured in 150 illustrations, most in color. Résumé:
In August 1968, the Pakistani foreign minister visited Beijing and presented Chairman Mao Zedong with a crate of mangoes as a diplomatic gesture. The next day, Mao sent the mangoes to the “Worker-Peasant Mao Zedong though Propaganda Teams,” who had been stationed at Quinghua University to put down warring factions of Red Guards ten days previously. The message of this gift was to dismiss the Student Red Guards, who had been leaders of the proletarian movement in China, and in their stead to install workers as the permanent guardians of China’s education system. During the following weeks, the mangoes were distributed to several factories, where they were treated as though they were religious relics. The golden mango was thus a powerful emblem of the power and respect accorded to the proletariat under Mao’s rule. Mao’s Gold Mangoes and the Cultural Revolution is the catalog for an exhibition of the same title at the Museum Rietberg in Zürich, which explores the golden mangoes’ reverberations throughout Chinese culture for years to come.
