Instigateur des premiers happenings au Québec, à l’instar des artistes new-yorkais dont il admirait le travail, il adopte l’irrévérence esthétique que lui inspirent les Néo-dadaïstes, s’aventure dans l’univers « pop » et s’intéresse à l’art de participation et à la création collective. C’est avec conviction que, sa vie durant, il se porte à la défense de l’accessibilité de l’art pour tous et s’évertue à mieux faire reconnaître le travail des artistes visuels du Québec qu’il considérait comme laissés pour compte. Sa foi était grande envers l’art comme facteur d’émancipation sociale et comme élément fondateur d’une identité québécoise forte et rassembleuse. Si une part considérable de sa production s’est développée autour des éléments de son propre quotidien, il se plaisait aussi à explorer ce qui rassemblait les gens, pour rejoindre un pan plus vaste de la société et faire tomber certaines divisions : la représentation des héros nationaux du Canadien de Montréal – rare trait d’union entre les anglophones et les francophones de l’époque – permet de réunir, encore aujourd’hui, les diverses tranches de la société autour de l’appréciation des arts visuels.

Call Ampersand Response is a collaborative artwork made through an exchange of images via email. Between 2011 and 2017 Canadian artists Michael Dumontier and Micah Lexier conceived this activity as a way to share with each other their mutual interest in found images, line drawings and used books. The starting image was a circle on a rectangle; every subsequent image was visually connected to the previous one. It was understood from the outset that they had to use images that could be scanned from physical items they already had at home (no images from the internet), such as children's books, technical manuals and assorted ephemera. The call-and-response nature of the enterprise can be appreciated in the pairs of facing pages that present themselves as you go through the book. This second edition, expanding on the Nieves edition of 2013, includes the entire project of 196 exchanges that make up Dumontier and Lexier's clever, competitive, meandering conversation.

L'importance de la démarche de la sculpteure et photographe Linda Covit nous a été confirmée, une fois de plus, avec l'exposition « Réflexions », présentée à Plein sud du 6 mars au 15 avril 2012. En parallèle à une série de photographies où se révélaient mutuellement les beautés de la nature et de l'architecture, l'artiste proposait également une imposante sculpture en bois. À la fois réceptacle et sanctuaire, demeure et nid, cette oeuvre contemplative, éclairée de l'intérieur, aux qualités plastiques saisissantes, nous renvoyait à des besoins universels liés d'une manière ou d'une autre aux notions d'enveloppement, de contemplation, d'habitat et d'urbanisme. Or, si la présentation de l'exposition «Réflexions» est à l'origine de ce projet de publication, c'est d'abord la maturité d'une démarche solidement construite sur plus de trente années de carrière artistique qui nous a persuadé de la pertinence de réaliser cette monographie portant sur l'oeuvre de Linda Covit.
