Résumé:
The artist Sandra Schlipkoeter (b. Solingen, Germany, 1979; lives and works in Berlin) uses the concept of interference as an umbrella term for her extensive oeuvre, which spans the media of painting, sculpture, and installation art. She studied at the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Art with Eberhard Havekost, who had a profound influence on her as she devised her own photorealistic visual language. Interferences of natural and digital light she engenders using photography and then reproduces by painterly means have been central to her work since 2012; she translates them into oil paintings, cut-outs made from fabric-like structures, and installations. Experimenting with the diverse manifestations of light and variously cutting up, superimposing, and contorting materials such as mirror foil or paper, she creates visual universes that brim with energy. The monograph "Interferenzen" presents her output of the past ten years. With essays by Gisela Elbracht-Iglhaut and Thomas Kuhn and a conversation with the artist by Anna Matzek.

The great Russian modernist painter and theorist Wassily Kandinsky was one of the pioneers of abstraction in Western art. Few documents provide more insight into his evolution from figural to abstract art—or into the development of abstraction in the early twentieth century—than the pages of his sketchbooks. Featuring previously unpublished drawings, "Wassily Kandinsky: The sketchbooks" is a comprehensive selection of hundreds of sketches from twelve notebooks Kandinsky kept between 1889 and 1935. Beginning with early figure studies, architectural sketches, and landscapes, the notebooks reveal a process of exploration that would lead Kandinsky from his first experiments in geometric abstraction to paintings that reshaped modernism.

Résumé:
Since the 1980s, Marilyn Minter has been a pioneer of sex-positive feminism in the contemporary art world, pushing the boundaries of what kind of imagery is acceptable in fine art, especially when produced by women. In her photorealistic paintings, including of celebrities such as Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Lizzo, Minter draws on the aesthetics of fashion magazines, depicting cropped women’s faces and bodies laden with jewels and couture accessories. In some of her work, she has explored how the meaning of pornographic imagery changes when it’s appropriated and transformed by a woman artist. Gathered from interviews, articles, and other sources, ''Minter-isms'' is a compelling collection of quotations that presents Minter’s revealing thoughts on art, women, power, sexuality, pornography, politics, and more. Filled with wisdom and humor, the book offers new insights about the life, work, and mind of this groundbreaking artist.

Résumé:
"Monumento" (2022) is an installation by Edoardo Tresoldi, commissioned by Generali, promoter of the restoration of the building carried out by the David Chipperfield Architects studio. The installation is located in the space around which the monumental circular staircase of the Procuratie Vecchie ascends. Monumento uses the rhetorical language of the monumental column as a reflection both on our times and on the rhetoric surrounding those values to which our society aspires: a society that reiterates the need to redefine the concept of strength, reinterpreting the role of fragility and which proposes listening and dialogue as the fundamental points of intercultural relations.

Publication made for the occasion of the show at 11 Mansfield Street, London. "Over the last few months, we have immersed ourselves in his archive; to discover new and rediscover familiar pieces; to discuss, and to gain a better understanding of his design and creative process. The focus of our conversations has been on quality; quality of work, life, time, research, food, family and friends. This focus informed our selection of pieces, and the grouping of themes, to reach the final edit of chairs, tables, 'Chables', cabinets, screens, shelves, mirrors, vases, beds, desks, lights, hooks, books and more. The idea was to fully embrace the journey so far, in order to navigate and prioritise what the future should and can become. " —Sarah Douglas

If "peripatetic" is the word most overused to describe him, it is not inappropriate. The Swiss-born, everywhere-based curator and head of the Programme Migrateurs at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris has an unstoppable wanderlust and a related symptom: his penchant for interviewing anyone and everyone who piques his curiosity, be they artist, scientist, writer, curator, composer, architect, thinker, etc. Since 1993, Obrist has conducted more than 300 interviews, 75 of which are collected here in a selection that respects the cultural and professional diversity of the interviewees. Each interview is introduced by a short text outlining the biography of the interviewee and giving some contextual information on the recording of the interview.

Bewitched, bothered and bewildered : spatial emotion in contemporary art and architecture

Résumé:
An exhibition catalogue from the Migros Museum featuring 21 artists and architects including Anish Kapoor, Jane and Louise Wilson, James Casebere, and Daniel Libeskind among others. The exhibition takes as its point of departure three contexts in which space occupies a central position: Sigmund Freud’s notion of “das Unheimliche” and psychoanalytical elaboration of space and its emotion; Michel Foucault’s other spaces – heterotopias and their counter-site qualities of socio-political implications; and Walter Benjamin’s outmoded and repressed space with all its auratic traces (fake or authentic) of philosophical and historic charge. “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered” aims to exploit the psychological associations of space with its multiplicity of emotional overtones, mapping its extremes and its psychic environment. Focusing on spatial pathologies (agoraphobia, vertigo, claustrophobia...), the exhibition identifies space as a cause of mental disorder, fear or estrangement, ultimate trauma. Hysteria, panic and neurosis overlap with other spatial stories of psychic unrest and unease: distortions and perversions (warped space); anxiety and enigmas (haunted space); spatial inconvenience and discomfort, perfectly domestic and yet alienating; space half-spoken, half-pronounced: a promise, a puzzle, a magic spell, temptation.
