Focusing on Höch’s collages, this book examines the artist’s career from the 1920s to the 1970s, charting her oeuvre from early works influenced by fashion and mass media, through to her later compositions of lyrical abstraction. It reveals her rapid development of a personal style, which was both humorous and often moving, but also offered critical commentary on society at a time of tremendous social change. Included are essays that examine themes such as the concept of the “New Woman” and the legacy of German colonialism.

Résumé:
Marc Nagtzaam’s artistic practice is based on a single theme: the idea of pattern and repetition. He draws lines, grids, circles, and words or sentences in an endless search, as if collecting pieces of information. The repetition and graphic structure is particularly reminiscent of minimal or conceptual aesthetics. His source material is reduced through basic, elementary means, wherein dots, lines, and flat surfaces construct a sort of structure. Although a large number of his drawings consist of colourless surfaces, darkly filled with graphite, ‘Farben’ is true to its name and presents a series of works in colour.

Résumé:
Published for his first solo show as an artist at Lafayette Anticipations in Paris, this book presents, for the first time, more than 40 artworks by Belgian fashion designer Martin Margiela. Reproducing images of installations, sculptures, collages, paintings and films, the book also advances the thesis that Martin Margiela has always been an artist. Internationally renowned in the fashion world since the late 1980s, throughout his career as a designer Margiela has deliberately upended the conventions of fashion through his materials and his runway shows. The works at the Lafayette Anticipations exhibition, most of which were made in the Foundation’s studio, return to the artist’s obsessions. The body is very much in evidence here, from anatomies inspired by the academic tradition to hair and skin in almost abstract form.

Résumé:
This publication traces the emergence of the valuation of nature. The book by the artist duo Cooking Sections unpacks forms of dispossession that are becoming more common through the protection—not only destruction—of natural environments. Through a series of artistic and architectural interventions, The book ties into current struggles for climate justice worldwide, contesting neoliberalism as a savior of its own ecological contradictions. It challenges conservation models based on “natural capital,” while proposing new spatial tactics to de-financialize the environment. Besides a photographic documentary and the works by Cooking Sections, the book assembles numerous contributions by interdisciplinary artists and scientists.

Over the course of 2020-2021, during the pandemic, Kara Walker has produced series of drawings in the style of a medieval 'Book of Hours'. Enigmatic images appear to traverse a range of time periods, from scenes of biblical and mythological origins, to images of historical violence, to others that suggest more recent political strife. The highly personal nature of these images capture Walker's own response to the intersection of past and present as a way to understand our contemporary political moment. The book comes with a poster.

Résumé:
On its surface, the work of Regina Gimenez involves an aesthetic exploration of geometry and colour. Yet it is forged from the observation of what can be described as “subaltern” teaching forms, reflecting an interest in what she calls “popular knowledge”: teaching models based not so much on the established canons but on fictitious registers and domestic resources. This exhibition catalogue delves into the dialogue created between Gimenez and a specific work by Sonia Delaunay (1885–1979), ‘Costume de Sport’, a watercolour which she produced in 1925. As this stimulative meeting shows, Delaunay’s work is and always has been a reference for that of Gimenez.

Résumé:
This book is not a proper catalogue raisonné, but rather an invitation to browse the library of an amateur. It allows us to consider an important aspect of Richard Prince’s work, addressing books as well as the notion of a collection and its incompleteness, revealed here by the ''ghosts'' of missing books. It encompasses his library and his production of artists’ books over the past four decades, the direct result of an avid book designer and collector who is also widely recognised for his painterly and photographic practice. His zeal for bound works is expressed in many instances where he photographs tomes from his own collection, transforming the publication into an infinite library.
