Résumé:
This diverse, literary patchwork of Rio de Janeiro contains 10 short stories set in varied quarters of the city drawing on its inhabitants' experiences of recent historical and cultural changes. From Copacabana's thriving LGBT scene in the 1960s where the military dictatorship simultaneously terrorizes and represses politically-minded citizens, to the exhausted labourers constructing the Rio-Niteroi bridge - 'the pride of Brazil' - at gunpoint in 1974, to contemporary life in the neighbourhood of Leblon, where a call girl trying to get to a party reluctantly accepts a very strange job for the evening. The ten stories in this anthology bring to life the complex and ever-changing face of Rio de Janeiro behind the images of slums, carnivals and the sex trade.

Résumé:
Cee Cee is Berlin’s most widely read online medium. Launched as a newsletter for friends in 2011, it covers and comments on the capital’s perpetually changing urban landscape and the multifaceted goings-on in the culture and restaurant scenes. The selection of recommendations is carefully vetted and has become an indispensable guide for Berlin lovers in Germany and abroad, for expats and locals. Working with a small team of photographers and authors, the people behind Cee Cee, Sven Hausherr and Nina Trippel, have now compiled a book presenting over two hundred of the most exciting features. The mix is diverse, subjective and authentic: secret bars and hidden art collections, idiosyncratic cafés and extravagant restaurants, eccentric concept stores and native originals. Numerous illustrations and full-page views show the Berlin of today. Recommendations, cross-references, guest columns by fashion designers and musicians, and insider’s advice sourced from the Cee Cee community make this book a treasure trove of information for explorers. A Berlin book for Berlin visitors, Berlin lovers, Berlin residents, and future Berliners.

Résumé:
This guide is a celebration of the works of professional architects in three South African metropolitan centres, namely Cape Town, Durban and the Johannesburg/Pretoria Axis. The content ranges from the early years of European settlement, where architects were trained by the military schools of engineering, through the period of apprenticeship either to a recognised practicing architect or in public works, to the twentieth century and beyond, where architects were regulated as professionals by legislation, as was their education. The projects selected are all secular, being either in the public domain or eye, and therefore readily accessible. This guide is structured along main themes, each historically located. Each episode or project type featured is highlighted by a representative from each metropolitan centre, each being discussed in broader detail alongside similar contemporaneous local examples. In total the guide features over a hundred-and-fifty projects with all salient information as to their dates of construction, designers and locality (by way of QR codes).

Résumé:
This publication provides a selection of 220 modern buildings — from the canonical works of Brazilian modern architecture to barely-known buildings; from works of the six best-known Brazilian masters — namely, Oscar Niemeyer, Lucio Costa, Paulo Mendes da Rocha, Joao Vilanova Artigas, Lina Bo Bardi, and Joao Filgueiras Lima (Lele) — to those of young aspiring architectural offices. Coming from different cultural contexts and professional backgrounds, the three authors favoured an open-minded approach to Brazilian production. Considering the vastness of the country and the enormous number of projects, the selection presented here is far from exhaustive but presents a panoramic overview that helps the traveller to see good architecture.
