Résumé:
Recent years have seen the creation of many new parks, gardens, forests, and valleys where modern sculpture and nature form a special bond. Designed nature serves as an inspiring setting for artworks that in turn enliven and animate the vibrant tension between the artificial and natural aspects of the grounds. This guidebook presents some eighty parks from eighteen different European countries. Each park and the artworks in it are presented with photographs, plans, and texts. The parks include both classics like the Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul de Vence, which attracts more than two hundred thousand visitors a year, and the Louisiana Museum in Humlebaek as well as new parks like the Europos Parkas in Vilnius, Sculpture at Schoenthal in Switzerland, and the Österreichische Skulpturenpark in Graz.

Résumé:
More than twenty years ago, a New Jersey artist started a project for the Philadelphia Anti-Graffiti Network that encouraged young people to paint murals on a few buildings around the city. Jane Golden could not have known that the Mural Arts Program (MAP) would become the nation's largest public art program and a model for programs throughout the country. With more than 2600 murals throughout Philadelphia, the program has brightened the lives of countless residents and tourists while providing a creative outlet for an astounding array of artists. MAP now works with more than 3000 students around the city, engaging them in a curriculum that teaches not only artistic skills but civic engagement and personal responsibility. "More Philadelphia murals and the stories they tell", a sequel to "Philadelphia murals and the stories they tell", shares with the earlier work its beautiful color photography, along with profiles of the artists. Featured here is the remarkable story of an unlikely artistic collaboration — between boys who live in a residential facility, a community in the Kensington section of Philadelphia, and men who are incarcerated in a maximum-security state correctional facility. The 1/8 of a mile long mural they created, about balanced and restorative justice, was intended to help the young men give something back to a community they had harmed and help the community wrestle with issues around crime and violence. In the process of creating the mural, it became a life-changing experience for all involved.

Building on the book "Art in a City" by John Willett, which surveyed the history of the visual arts in Liverpool, this collection of essays explores art in contemporary Liverpool and engages with the view from outside the City and outside Britain. It examines the often made but rarely challenged claim that Liverpool is ‘the most significant UK centre for art outside London’, and looks at the key institutional players, such as the Bluecoat and the Walker Art Gallery as well as all those that post-date Willett, including Tate Liverpool, Open Eye, FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology), and the Liverpool Biennial. There are discussions of the role of Liverpool as an arts city from the perspective of key artists who have worked in the city; of public vs private patronage in the arts, including the extent and role of public funding; of the changing nature of public art; of the social role of the arts; and of community participation in the arts. The book has a major consideration of the role of the arts in city regeneration and of the concept of ‘the creative industries’.
