Résumé:
Before it was restored, the High Line was an untouched, abandoned landscape overgrown with wildflowers. Today it is much more than that; it’s a central plaza, a cultural center, a walkway, and a green retreat in a bustling city that is free for all to enjoy. But above all else, it is a beautiful, dynamic garden with plantings designed by Piet Oudolf, one of the world’s most extraordinary garden designers. "Gardens of the High Line", by Piet Oudolf and Rick Darke, offers an in-depth view into the planting designs, plant palette, and maintenance of this landmark achievement. It reveals a four-season garden that is filled with native and exotic plants, drought-tolerant perennials, and grasses that thrive and spread. It also offers inspiration and advice to home gardeners and garden designers looking to recreate its iconic, naturalistic style. Featuring stunning photographs by Rick Darke and an introduction by Robert Hammond, the founder of the Friends of the High Line, this large-trim, photo-driven book is a must-have for anyone who appreciates the nature of design.

Résumé:
In the 21st century the architects and designers of urban spaces face great challenges to integrate nature in order to transform 'cement forests' into 'forest cities'. Perhaps the best solution is to go green with vertical landscapes. More than just a decorative trend, this is a means of bringing life and greenery into metropolitan areas by using different framing systems to create compositions of plant life and adapt them to diverse settings, including offices, factories, parking lots, hotels, and installations within larger parks. Enriched by the reflections of the inventive protagonists of this fertile new aesthetic, Going Green with Vertical Landscapes is organised by theme and canvases early experiments conducted by famous design companies such as Vo Trong Nghia Architects (VTN), Fytogreen Australia and RYUICHI ASHIZAWA ARCHITECTS & associates. All of these projects combine man-made materials, recent technologies, and diverse types of vegetation to conquer the vertical dimension.

While the New York Botanical Garden, the High Line, and Central Park are familiar names and places, other venues, such as Roosevelt Park, the Inwood Heather Garden, Brooklyn Bridge Park, and the Chinese Scholar's Garden, remain relatively under-visited and under-appreciated. In addition to parks and three botanical gardens, public horticulture in New York encompasses community- and conservancy-sponsored gardens, vest pocket parks, museum gardens, and even indoor atria. ''City Green: Public Gardens of New York'' focuses on the vitality, variety, and beauty of the city's garden landscapes in a time when the appreciation for how gardens enhance the quality of urban life is on the rise.

Résumé:
South of Geneva, Switzerland, the Aire River runs across a plain that for centuries has been agricultural land. Since the late nineteenth century, the waterway has been embanked for flood protection, which has caused a gradual loss of habitat for a large variety of plants and animals. In 2001, a decision was made to renaturalize the river. Yet rather than merely reconstructing the river’s former natural bed, Superpositions, the association of firms commissioned with the project, applied “topographic imagination,” a method that combines the embanked channel with a newly designed pasture landscape. This new book documents that renaturalization project through drawings, images of construction work, and images of the new waterway. Essays and commentary by international contributors Jean-Marc Besse, Lorette Coen, Gerorges Descombes, G. Mathias Kondolf, Elissa Rosenberg, Gilles A. Tiberghien, and Marc Treib demonstrate how the restored river has been transformed, becoming again a characteristic feature of this landscape on the fringe of the city.

Résumé:
Gardens take many forms, and have a variety of functions. They can serve as spaces of peace and tranquilty, a way to cultivate wildlife, or as places to develop agricultural resources. Globally, gardens have inspired, comforted, and sustained people from all walks of life, and since the Garden of Eden many iconic gardens have inspired great artists, poets, musicians, and writers. In this short history, Gordon Campbell embraces gardens in all their splendour, from parks, and fruit and vegetable gardens to ornamental gardens, and takes the reader on a globe-trotting historical journey through iconic and cultural signposts of gardens from different regions and traditions. Ranging from the gardens of ancient Persia to modern day allotments, he concludes by looking to the future of the garden in the age of global warming, and the adaptive spirit of human innovation.
