Tibor Kalman, probably best known for the witty designs of his company M and his provocative work for Benetton's Colors magazine, defines the eclectic multidisciplinary approach that has come to characterize graphic design in the past decade. Tibor, designed by Michael Bierut of Pentagram and edited by I.D. Magazine senior writer Peter Hall, is the first comprehensive collection of Kalman's work and ideas. This full-color title--numbering over 400 pages--includes a pictorial manifesto by Kalman, revealing his thoughts on magazines, advertising, sex, bookstores, food, and the design profession. German type and book designer Jan Tschichold (1902-1974) revolutionized modern typography through his bold, asymmetrical designs and use of sanserif typography, both inspired by the work of the Bauhaus. He proclaimed his new design philosophy through a series of articles and books, including Die neue Typographie, published in Berlin in 1928. His international renown came largely as a result of his redesign of Penguin's entire series of paperback novels just after World War II. Any graphic designer practicing today owes a debt to Tschichold's innovation. "Jan Tschichold: A Life in Typography" offers a concise biography of Tschichold, accompanied by numerous examples of his vast body of work. It serves as an introduction to Tschichold for those who are unfamiliar with his influential style, yet for the experienced designer it is an excellent collection of the wide range of his designs.

Throughout a career that spans over 50 years, Wyman has made his name by designing for museums, zoos, metro stations and the 2008 Barack Obama presidential campaign. But it was when he won a competition at age 29 to design the Mexico Olympic graphics for the 1968 games that Wyman launched his career; his work is now a cornerstone for understanding the visual culture of present-day Mexico. In lieu of the extravagance typical of Olympic designs, Wyman offered something refreshing, spacious and above all modern as he unwittingly entered a tumultuous and revolutionary moment in Mexican history. His bold image of a modern Mexico would last beyond the nation's moment in the international spotlight; Wyman stayed for another four years, designing graphic systems for the Mexico City Metro, Central de Abasto and Camino Real Hotel. Depuis la création du studio de design graphique deValence, ses membres s'attachent à mettre en place un processus de travail garantissant un dialogue permanent entre les différents acteurs des projets auxquels ils sont associés. Véritable artiste moderne, Paul Rand est parvenu à allier certaines influences avant-gardistes européennes (notamment celles du Bauhaus, du mouvement De Stijl, ou du constructivisme russe) au fonctionnalisme américain, donnant ainsi naissance à une nouvelle conception du design.
