Les dernières études de Jean-Pierre Sodini et de Lean Luc Biscop, sur l'ensemble de Qal'at Sem'an, construit autour de la colonne de Syméon le Stylite, aboutissent à (les conclusions assurées sur la restitution de ce monument. II en va de même pour le sanctuaire célèbre de Saint-Polyeucte à Constantinople, pour lequel Jonathan Bardill précise la restitution qu'il propose. Enfin la fouille de Sidi Jdidi (Aradi) en Tunisie, due à Aïcha Ben Abed et Michel Fixot, montre un ensemble beaucoup plus modeste, tel qu'on en trouve dans les petites cités de l'antiquité tardive, dont on néglige trop souvent les spécificités.
