Résumé:
Tangible Traces proffers context, craftsmanship and tradition as antidotes to our seamless global landscape of bland architecture and design. The architecture firm Onix, spatial designer Frank Havermans, textile designer Claudy Jongstra, fashion designer Alexander van Slobbe and industrial designer Hella Jongerius share a common quest to imbue their work with unexpected meaning derived from consideration of local culture and context, rediscovery of traditional craft, use of quotidian materials and a fascination with chance and improvisation. Though they look to the past for inspiration, a fusion of state-of-the-art technologies and an unmistakably Dutch vision lends their designs a contemporary air.

Résumé:
Simple, clear, intelligent: the demographic shift brought on by modernity called for and facilitated a new understanding of design. The most critical and social stratum with the most money to spend, the "50+" generation, expects new standards in design and architecture that merge aesthetics, ergonomics, comfort, and bold lines. This is no longer about specific solutions for the few, but about making life comfortable for all: clear menus, spacious rooms and sizeable objects that are easy to use. Oliver Herwig’s book provides design-related and socially conscious answers for designers and architects, for decision-makers and companies, for everyone interested in addressing the needs of this discerning target group on a long-term basis. It examines the personal situation of an ever-aging generation from head to toe and introduces design strategies, product innovations, and architectural solutions for a barrier-free world, which would benefit everyone.

Résumé:
Marvels of human ingenuity, so small they can fit in the palm of your hand, miniature boxwood carvings from the early 16th century have long remained a mystery because of the enormous virtuosity with which they were made. Presenting 60 statuettes, miniature altars, prayer nuts, rosaries, skuls and other memento mori-pendants, 'Small Wonders' focuses for the first time on these Late Gothic, pocket size carvings from the Low Countries. These ingeniously constructed, awe-inspiring detailed cut artworks depicting biblical scenes were made as sophisticated ‘toys’ for private devotion and amusement, as well as collectibles that only the rich could afford.
