This book explores the best and brightest in playful interior design. Colors jump from furniture to kaleidoscopic walls. Lines become sinuous and bold. The palette is warm and full, and unafraid of extravagance. The spaces in this book showcase a range of historic influences, imaginatively updated to the present. A squiggly line connects bold post-war color schemes to the exuberant work of Ettore Sottsass and the Memphis Group. The vibrancy and eclecticism of 1990s decor is echoed in recent movements injecting rainbow hues into urban greige.

Résumé:
In this publication, Victoria Newhouse addresses the aesthetics and acoustics in concert halls and opera houses of the past, present, and future. Site and Sound explores the daunting, perennial question: Does the music serve the space, or the other way around? Newhouse starts with a survey of venues from ancient Greek and Roman times and progresses to contemporary works around the world. She singles out Lincoln Center in particular for its long history and its transitions and remodelings over the years. Two major chapters cover the present: one focuses on recent work in the West, including the National Opera House of Norway in Oslo by Snohetta (2008), the Casa da Musica in Porto, Portugal, by Rem Koolhaas (2005), and many more; the second examines the boom in concert halls in China. A final chapter looks at projects that are currently planned and the future of an architecture for music.

Résumé:
Interior design, as a relatively young discipline within the academic world of design, has historically been interpreted as an extension of other fine arts. Narratives exist, but they all too often treat interior design as a function of architecture or display rather than experience. An independent interior design theory is virtually nonexistent. Professor Lois Weinthal envisions a future where interior design is treated with parity to architecture and industrial design, a future with a new interior.

Résumé:
This publication gathers a range of contemporary artists whose work takes the vocabulary of interior design as a point of departure. Reconceptualizing the decoration of our everyday environments through sculpture and installation, these artists explore, and sometimes dismantle, the current attitudes and the social furniture that reveal the public dimensions of our private worlds. In French the word "decor" refers to stage and film sets as well as interior design, and in a similar spirit the works in this volume occupy an arena midway between theater and everyday life.
